Brazilian Portuguese Translation Specialist (EN - PT-BR), Translation Services Operations
A Translation Specialist has exceptional linguistic and translation skills, organization and attention to detail, and excellent communication to manage relationships with colleagues, external partners and other stakeholders.
The Translation Specialist manages quality by assessing and scoring translations (both machine-generated and human), working with language assets like style guides, translation memories and term bases. They also provide comprehensive and structured feedback supported by sound knowledge of the MQM’s framework. This feedback is used to improve human linguists’ quality, train and enhance machine translation (MT) engines as well as quality-prediction models. The candidate will be comfortable working in an international, fast-paced environment, where change and ambiguity are present as we constantly grow, improve and innovate.
Key job responsibilities
- Conduct quality checks by proofreading/reviewing linguistic work from freelance translators, peers and other external vendors to ensure adherence to customer’s and company’s quality standards.
- Provide feedback and linguistic coaching to peers, freelance translators and other external vendors and engage in quality improvement initiatives when needed.
- Review and improve MT and Large Language Models (LLM) engines’ quality by assessing output and providing linguistic feedback.
- Monitor external vendor quality, investigate quality variations and develop and implement measures to drive quality improvement in collaboration with other internal teams.
- Contribute to the maintenance of existing language assets such as style guides, term bases and translation memories.
- Provide occasional manual translations, such as during the launch of a new language combination.
- Occasionally, post-edit machine-translated product pages in an efficient way to increase the product availability for the customer in their preferred language.
- Depending on the department’s needs and your own skills and inclinations, support our leadership, business and tech teams by taking an active part in training, project/program management or other initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
- Brazilian Portuguese at a native level (or minimum C2).
- Localization skills from English (minimum C1) into Brazilian Portuguese.
- Fully fluent in both oral and written English.
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Translation, Linguistics, Communication or a related field.
- Analytical, writing and editorial skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Initiative, decisiveness and autonomy.
- Communication and collaboration skills.
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and work towards deadlines.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in proofreading or post-editing machine-translated content is an advantage.
- Ability to translate from a second source language is a plus.
- Experience with MT, LLMs and annotations.
- Strong working knowledge of CAT tools.
- Experience with mark-up languages, user interface strings and e-learning content.
- Project management experience.
- Ability to make sound decisions during tasks with incomplete or unclear information.
- Experience working as part of a global team and in different time zones.
