Offer Description

Applications are invited by the University of Alicante President for an open-ended contractual position as an assistant researcher to collaborate with the funded line of research "Molecular basis of the degenerative process and pharmacology of hereditary retinal dystrophies". Reference: I-PI 148-24

Pursuant to the provisions of the regulations governing calls for applications of research staff to cover contractual research positions, the University of Alicante calls for applications to cover a job position in accordance with the following terms and conditions:

First. Number of vacancies and features of the job vacancy:

1. Number of job vacancies: one.
2. Job position: assistant researcher.
3. Funded line of research: "Molecular basis of the degenerative process and pharmacology of hereditary retinal dystrophies".
4. Working hours: 33 hours/week in morning/afternoon sessions.
5. Remuneration: €1,186.12 gross/monthly (plus extra payments in accordance with current regulations).

Second. First research group with which the successful applicant will collaborate.

1. Name of the research group: "Visual System Neurobiology and Neurodegenerative Disease Therapy".
2. Dept. / Institute: Department of Optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy.
3. Tasks to be carried out:

• Taking of samples of mouse retinas and processing of said samples for their study using immunohistochemistry techniques.
• Taking of samples of mouse retinas and processing of said samples for flow cytometry analysis.
• Analysis of data obtained using flow cytometry.
• Administration of drugs and AAVs to mice via intraperitoneal and intramuscular injection.
• Quantitative RT-PCR.
• Acquisition of retina images using optical coherence tomography and quantitative morphological analysis.
• Maintenance of cell lines.
• Study of the effect of neuroprotective compounds on cell lines under stress.

Third. Job profile.

Preference will be given to those with:

1. Experience and training related to the tasks listed in the second section of this call and to:

• Experiments with mice.
• Extraction and manipulation of mouse retinas.
• Flow cytometry technique.
• Analysis of data obtained using flow cytometry (FCS Express. De Novo Software).
• Optical coherence tomography (OCT) with mice.
• Morphological analysis of the retina using OCT.
• Quantitative PCR.
• Work with viruses.
• Cell cultures.

3.3. Qualification:

• Official Master's degree in Biotechnology and Bioengineering (Spanish MECES level 3 or EQF level 7) or any other official Master's degree with equivalent content.

Fourth. Requirements for applicants.

Compliance with the requirements listed below must always refer to the date of expiry of the deadline for the submission of applications and must be maintained until the date of entering into the contract. Applicants must:

1. Hold or be in the process of obtaining an undergraduate degree in Biology (Spanish MECES level 2 or EQF level 6) plus an official Master's degree in Biotechnology and Bioengineering (Spanish MECES level 3 or EQF level 7) or any other official Master's degree with equivalent content.
2. Hold the certificate qualifying the applicant to handle animals used, bred or provided for experimentation and other scientific purposes, recognised by the relevant authorities, in accordance with Spanish Royal Decree 53/2013, of 1 February.
3. Be a Spanish national or be in one of the situations listed in article 57 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of 30 October.
4. Be at least 16 years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.
5. Possess the physical and mental capacities necessary for the performance of the corresponding functions or tasks, for which a medical certificate must be provided prior to the signing of the contract.
6. Not have been dismissed by disciplinary proceedings from any Public Administrations or have been totally or specially disqualified for public employment.
