Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

Technical Leadership and Operations

  • Lead and support technical work in radiation protection, including exposure minimization, contamination control, and decontamination and decommissioning strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance on health physics issues to internal teams and clients, including radiological characterization, shielding, and ALARA planning.
  • Develop and implement radiation protection programs aligned with CNSC and international regulatory standards.
  • Oversee and conduct radiological measurements, data analysis, and interpretation to support decision-making.
  • Support client projects from planning to completion, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget are met.
  • Coordinate teams and resources to deliver on technical objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Support regular client communication to track progress and address issues.
  • Prepare project documentation, including plans, updates, and final reports.
  • Supervise technical staff performing radiological assessments, field work, and implementation.
  • Support proposal development, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Ensure project execution meets client expectations and internal quality standards.
  • Support the development of training material related to all Radiation Protection and Health Physics concepts, instrumentation, other related topics, and deliver training material/courses as needed.
  • Support radiological waste characterization, volume reduction, and disposal strategies for all Kinectrics licensed facilities.
  • Report to Kinectrics Bruce County sites (Tiverton, ON) as primary work location, with some travel required to support client needs as well as to support Kinectrics RP Operations at additional licensed facilities located in Teeswater as required, typically at a monthly frequency or as otherwise determined to be necessary. Additional travel may be required to alternate client sites on an as needed basis.

  • Foster a safety-focused and collaborative work culture within the Health Physics team and across project interfaces.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff, Radiation Protection Supervisors, and technicians in radiation protection practices, procedures, and field techniques.
  • Encourage a learning environment where innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement are promoted.
  • Support team engagement through clear communication, feedback, and alignment with shared goals.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Champion radiation safety and regulatory compliance in all work performed, including adherence to CNSC requirements and licensed site procedures.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and records consistent with ISO 17025, RP Program, and site-specific quality systems.
  • Conduct audits, field reviews, and assessments to ensure safe and compliant work practices.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, safety assessments, decontamination and decommissioning plans.

Customer and Business Focus

  • Act as a key liaison with clients, understanding their technical needs and delivering tailored, high-quality solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with customer organizations through regular updates, technical discussions, and site visits.
  • Provide consultative input and recommendations to support licensing, compliance, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Identify and support new business opportunities related to radiation protection services, decontamination, and decommissioning.

Operational Excellence and Innovation

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of radiation protection procedures, tools, and workflows.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and technical innovations in the health physics field.
  • Participate in external industry associations, conferences, and technical forums to share knowledge and support company visibility.
  • Drive innovation in the application of radiological assessment methods, modeling tools, and decontamination technologies.
What You Need to Succeed

Essential Competencies

  • Strong foundation in radiation protection principles, radiological hazard assessment, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., CNSC, IAEA).
  • Practical experience in radiation measurement techniques (e.g., gamma spectroscopy, contamination surveys, dose assessments).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects from planning through execution, with a focus on safety, quality, and performance.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing radiological field work at licensed nuclear facilities and/or during decommissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of radioactive material handling, transport, and release criteria.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach to service delivery.
  • Ability to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Desirable (Asset) Experience

  • Experience with radiological modeling software, and internal/external dose estimation/assessments (e.g., MicroShield, VISIPLAN, RESRAD, MCNP, IMBA).
  • Familiarity with CANDU reactor systems and station chemistry.
  • Understanding of waste characterization, classification, logistics, and volume minimization strategies.
  • Experience working on international radiation protection or decommissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection instrumentation calibration and QA/QC protocols.
  • Class-7 Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and familiarity with Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations (PTNSR).
  • Ability to support or develop as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Class-7 shipments for company wide shipments of radioactive material.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Medical Physics, Radiation Science, Nuclear Engineering, or a related scientific field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in the nuclear industry, with direct involvement in radiation protection projects or programs.
  • Experience in a CNSC-licensed environment is required.
  • Certification by the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) or hold the Health Physics Certification (CHP) considered an asset.
  • Combined experience working as a designated facility Radiation Safety Officer in addition to experience as a Health Physicist is considered an asset.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
