Job description

Job Overview:
The Youth Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of youth empowered and youth led circles, group programming and activities for youth served by KGCFS and support regarding the development and facilitation of a new Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Outreach Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the KGCFS specialized and alternative teams relative to the youth service developments, planning and direct service delivery. The Youth Outreach Coordinator will lead development and planning of service delivery and programs with youth aged 9-18 years old, and work in collaboration with the new Rapid Response Youth team relative to coordinating new specialized wholistic wellness and youth connection activities.
Qualifications

  1. Child and Youth Worker Diploma is preferred
  2. Direct experience with at-risk populations for a minimum of 2 years.
  3. Required experience in facilitating circles and groups with youth and young adults.
  4. Worked with youth including knowledge of harm reduction, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
  5. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community combined with previous youth outreach and/or community development experience.
  6. Experienced in working with diverse cultures and communities.
  7. Coordinated and developed services with Indigenous youth is an asset.
  8. Worked with children and vulnerable families is an asset.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
  1. Willing to engage in diverse Indigenous ceremonies and with Elders/Knowledge Keepers.
  2. In depth understanding of the child welfare system, history of colonization, and ongoing impacts of generational trauma.
  3. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal).
  4. Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  5. Experience building partnerships and working collaboratively to meet shared objectives.
  6. Strategic thinker with organizing, planning, and analytical skills.
  7. Passionate about engaging in outcomes evaluation and ongoing quality improvement.
  8. Self-motivated, uses initiative, and is detail oriented.
  9. Proven organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  10. Flexible and adaptable to new tasks.
  11. Has time management and presentation skills with the ability to follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines.
  12. Able to work independently, problem solve, and research issues is imperative.
  13. Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS outlook, and project management skills.
  14. Knowledge of Anishinaabe First Nation traditions, cultures, values, and history.
  15. The ability to speak the Anishinaabe language is a definite asset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time-to-time exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting. Candidate must live within service area.
