TITLE: Youth Mental Health Program Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Youth Mental Health Director

POSITION SUMMARY: Full Time

The Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention (RCSP) is a local not-for-profit and registered charity that provides public education and support in life promotion and suicide prevention.

The Youth Mental Health Program Coordinator (the Coordinator) is a full-time position, 35 hours per week, requiring and providing work hour flexibility. The suitable candidate must be available for some weekend and evening hours in addition to being available for the RCSP office hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Coordinator is responsible for organizing and facilitating RCSP’s Youth Mental Health Program. This includes one-day weekend workshops for youth ranging from 7-17, as well as evening Support & Friendship nights and Youth Drop-in Groups.

This position is dependent on financial support from Alberta Health Services.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote Youth Mental Health Programs through social media, networking, and public events.
  • Build and maintain partnerships and collaborations with community agencies.
  • Facilitate the referral process and maintain contact with interested participants and families.
  • Setup and facilitate weekend workshops for all age groups as a lead facilitator.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly Support & Friendship activities.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly Youth Drop-in groups.
  • Track and maintain program statistics as per RCSP’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide additional support to youth and families as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will possess one or more of the following:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counselling, or other Human Services related field (or comparable experience).
  • Facilitating/presenting experience.
  • Minimum 1 year working with youth.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health and suicide prevention.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with diverse community partners such as social services, multi levels of government, faith-based and health services.
  • Above average written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of social service community agencies and protocols for referrals/advocacy.

Other Information

The successful applicant will be required to obtain the following documents: Criminal Record Check, Child Intervention Record Check (C.Y.I.M), First Aid & CPR certification, and Suicide Prevention Training Program.
