EMPLOYEE GROUP: Contract (Approximately 14-16 weeks), 35 hours/week

LOCATION: Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores, Kincardine
SALARY: $20.00 per hour

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Reporting to The Well Youth Hub Manager, the Youth Ambassador is a dynamic position designed to foster a welcoming and empowering environment for youth. Youth Ambassadors serve as mentors, guides, and advocates, playing a key role in creating a safe space for youth to connect, access services, and navigate available programming. This role supports youth in a meaningful way while building valuable professional skills.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Client Services: Act as a friendly and welcoming presence for youth entering programming. Provide peer support by initiating conversations and sharing resources. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of available services and programs within the youth space and the broader community.
  2. Team Building: Serve as a liaison between the site coordinator and youth volunteer helpers. Participate in team events, including program development and community activities. Collaborate on the creation, development, and implementation of youth programming.
  3. Communication: Handle incident reporting with the support of the site supervisor. Act as an outreach advocate to enhance youth engagement in programming. Work with sensitive and private information, ensuring strict confidentiality.
  4. Digital Skills: Design social media and marketing materials using tools like Canva. Utilize Microsoft Office to create communications, reports, and training materials. Leverage email and other digital communication tools to maintain effective collaboration with team members and the community.
  5. Leadership: Develop and deliver ongoing training tailored to volunteer needs and requests. Build rapport with youth and team members to enhance overall program experiences. Serve as a mentor for youth, embodying the values of The Well Community Collective.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
Qualifications:
  • Secondary School Graduate Diploma. Students enrolled in a post-secondary school, Social Work Program preferred. Strong administration skills including document management and keyboarding.
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable motor vehicle with appropriate business class liability insurance is required.
General Skills and Attributes:
  • A genuine passion for working with youth and creating inclusive, empowering environments.
  • Ability to set boundaries and identify risks, knowing when and how to guide youth to appropriate service providers. Prior experience in youth engagement, peer mentorship, or similar roles is an asset.
  • Good ability to use MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel), Canva, and social media platforms.
  • Strong decision-making skills. Solid written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills providing constructive, meaningful, and timely interaction with staff and youth.
  • Ability to think analytically with attention to detail in the presence of frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent understanding and commitment to quality service and best practice.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to work as an integral member of a team, demonstrating cooperation and support of others. Accountable for own actions and decisions, making decisions within the scope of the position and referring issues/problems/events to the supervisor as required.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to change.
  • Ability to deal with highly sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner.
  • Excellent ability to analyze information, problem-solve and make good decisions.
  • Self-directed with a solid ability to organize, plan, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent written documentation skills that are clear, thorough, concise, accurate, and timely.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking.
EFFORTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work will be performed at The Well Community Collective Youth Wellness Hub.
  • Intermediate periods of sitting and computer/phone use.
  • The incumbent has the freedom to move about or change position at will, except in crisis situations. Multi-tasks within a fast-paced, high-volume, and demanding environment.
  • Absorbs and interprets information from multiple parties on a regular basis.
  • Required to listen to and reconcile multiple points of view being discussed/presented.
  • Frequent interruptions often dealing with critical issues.
  • Occasional travel within the BGCFS region.
  • May be exposed to potentially hazardous environments including driving conditions and volatile situations.
  • Occasional lifting of heavy objects may be required.
