Wildland Firefighter – Ontario FireRanger

Job Term: Temporary recruitment initiative to hire several fixed-term contracts and seasonally recurring positions. Seasonal, duration up to 5.5 months, Any City, anywhere in Ontario.

Salary: $25.38 – $32.43 Per Hour* depending on position level. There are multiple positions available.

What can I expect to do in this role?

1. Initial attack: the action taken to halt the spreading or potential spread of a fire by the first firefighting force to arrive at the fire.
2. Sustained attack: the continued action of suppressing a fire beyond the initial attack, until it is under control.
3. Mop-up: the act of extinguishing a fire after it has been deemed under control.
4. Fire prevention.
5. Equipment maintenance.
6. Training.
7. Resource management projects such as clearing brush or trees that could be a fire hazard.

Who is Eligible?

1. 18 years of age or older.
2. Able to speak English.
3. Legally entitled to work in Canada and required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
4. Possess a valid Driver's Licence (minimum G2).
5. Successfully complete the following training:

• Canadian Physical Performance Exchange Standard for Type I Wildland Firefighters Link.
• SP100 Wildland Firefighter Training Course Link.
• Standard first aid (St. John’s, Red Cross or equivalent) Link.

North East Region Locations: Chapleau, Cochrane, Haliburton, Hearst, North Bay, Garson, Timmins, Wawa.

North West Region Locations: Armstrong Station, Dryden, Fort Frances, Geraldton, Kenora, Pickle Lake, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay.
