We are seeking three experienced Fitters/Welders to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis at Algonquin, Thorndale.

Openings

02 Positions are open for Day Shifts – 07:00 AM to 05:30 PM Monday to Thursday.

01 Position is open for the Night Shift at our R800 Building - 05:30 to 04:00 AM Monday to Thursday.

Job Description

  • Cut, drill, bevel and grind metal parts to ensure proper fit-up for welding
  • Lay out, position, and align parts and assemblies prior to welding
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, and bolt parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as SMAW (shielded metal arc) and GMAW (gas metal arc) welding equipment, air arc (including setting up regulators, adjusting gas flow and pressure, and setting machine parameters to match welding specification)
  • Weld parts and assemblies using CWB-certified procedures to ensure conformance with design requirements
  • Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces using measuring tools and jigs
  • Gather required tools, equipment, and materials in the work area and maintain a clean, safe working area free from dirt and debris
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards for safety, on-time delivery, cost control, and waste reduction
Qualifications

  • O.S.S.G.D Graduation diploma or equivalent
  • Capable of obtaining CWB weld ticket in FCAW / MCAW flat and GMAW flat
  • Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Capable of retaining learned skills and applying them to future projects
  • Able to use various tools such as, but not limited to: welding machines, grinders, drills, hand and track torches, plasma torches, fit-up jigs, fixture tables, cranes, shears, punches, straightedges, combination squares, calipers, tape measures
  • Able to complete basic math problems (adding fractions, center-line distance calculation, etc.)
  • Able to read, comprehend, and interpret welding instructions, including prepared joints, symbols, defects, and sizes.
  • Able to read, comprehend, and interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine the appropriate welding process
  • Able to perform welding processes with consistency and at a steady pace with minimal rework or repairs
  • Willing to work overtime as required
  • Strong oral and written English language communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with regularity; frequent bending, stooping, and standing
  • Must be able to wear and perform work in personal protective equipment (e.g. welding hood) for extended periods.
  • Other duties as assigned
