Key Responsibilities:
- Execute planned and reactive welding repairs and fabrication as needed to ensure optimal performance of equipment
- Perform welding and structural repairs on a variety of equipment including Crushing Plants, Conveyors, Apron Feeders, Rotary Wet Screens, Pump Boxes, and CCO Spools
- Provide proactive preventative maintenance support both in the field and shop to minimize downtime and enhance equipment longevity
- Conduct rigging activities for heavy equipment using mobile equipment and lifting devices
- Inspect welds to ensure compliance with industry standards and technical specifications
- Contribute to post-event failure analysis and participate in root cause discussions to help drive continuous improvement
- Remove and replace major components such as Crushers, Rotary Wet Screens, and Pump Boxes as part of maintenance and repair efforts
- Operate company-provided equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently
- Review work orders, technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams related to work assignments. Prepare work scope and complete hazard/risk assessments
- Clean and prepare base metals using bevellers, grinders, air nibblers, and appropriate cleaning chemicals
- Evaluate existing maintenance procedures and suggest improvements for better efficiency and adaptability in setup and production
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years post-apprenticeship experience maintaining heavy equipment in an operating plant environment
- Expert-level knowledge of welding processes, metal properties, layout, and structural fabrication
- Proficiency in various welding techniques including SMAW, OAC, MIG, FCAW, PAC, and heat treatment processes
- Strong initiative, a motivated work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- A valid Alberta Journeyman Welder Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Welder Certificate
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification
- Familiarity with SAP or similar maintenance management systems is a plus
Location and Other Details:
- This role is located at our Fort Hills Site, north of Fort McMurray
- This is a Fly In, Fly Out Role
- You will be working a 7 day on and 7 day off schedule
