Your Role:

Radio-Canada Ontario is looking for an enthusiastic lead editor with strong journalism skills and significant experience in digital news to join the daily news team in Ontario, specifically at our Windsor station. You will collaborate on the Radio-Canada Ontario website and its associated digital platforms, writing news articles under tight deadlines. You must be able to create and organize digital news content and enhance articles with multimedia materials to increase their value to the audience. You may be required to write and present a combination of local, regional, national, and international headlines and news for the web and radio. Working in a highly integrated newsroom, you may also present reports and news content on other platforms when needed.

Please note that this position is full-time on-site from Monday to Friday. The selected candidate may need to work overtime and during public holidays. The schedule may change based on operational needs. This is a 12 months temporary position.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and cultivate exceptional skills in continuous news writing, editing, and assembling, following the style and formats of Radio-Canada, and under tight deadlines.
  • Review and write content for publication on the Radio-Canada Windsor website, our apps, and associated social media platforms.
  • Prepare and deliver news bulletins on air for the entire province when needed.
  • Work under the direction of a producer, but you are expected to show initiative and judgment.
  • You may be called upon to coordinate the activities of others, and close collaboration with other journalists is essential.

Main Tasks:

  • Quickly write articles for breaking news for digital platforms.
  • Select photos and audio/video clips to accompany online reports.
  • Critically review content and elements produced by others.
  • Write, edit, assemble, and publish digital content clearly and concisely for a national audience.
  • Organize and update the homepage of Radio-Canada Windsor.
  • Ensure that the website and reports align with the day's priorities.
  • Conduct interviews to support web production, write articles, and edit radio clips.
  • Gather information from various sources and report on it.
  • Rewrite articles as needed to best fit the platform's format.
  • Ensure that all texts adhere to standard grammar rules and the style of the Radio-Canada Windsor website.
  • Prepare and write articles and headlines based on information provided by reporters, news wires, CBC, or original sources.
  • Use content from other CBC/Radio-Canada platforms for digital services.
  • Occasionally produce reports, interviews, or live segments for the radio.
  • Review texts related to programs, including enhanced segments for audiofil, as needed by the station.
  • Prepare the news bulletin, establish its lineup, and read it on air for the entire province on weekends when needed.
  • Perform any other related tasks.

You Have:

  • A university degree (or equivalent) in journalism, communications, or related fields.
  • Five (5) years of direct experience in the position, including demonstrated knowledge of online and digital news media, proven journalistic writing skills, and knowledge of Radio-Canada's digital and broadcast sectors.
  • Extensive and evident knowledge of southwestern Ontario, regional, national, and international issues.
  • Ability to write a wide range of material related to news and current affairs.
  • Experience and proven ability to write/edit following best practices and style guidelines for digital platforms.
  • Ability to select and prepare photos and videos to enrich reports.
  • Experience in identifying potential legal issues and problems related to the failure to meet Radio-Canada's journalistic standards in digital content.
  • Strong editorial judgment to assess information and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a newsroom with tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent team spirit.
  • Bilingualism (French and English).
