Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Manager, Procurement & Logistics, the Warehouse Worker is responsible for the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of goods. This includes preparing and completing orders for delivery or pickup, receiving and processing stock and materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. The warehouse worker is also responsible for the maintenance of the shelter’s storeroom which includes but is not limited to, stocking of materials and supplies, inventory control and records, and related duties as required. The Warehouse Worker also operates and maintains warehouse equipment and contributes to accurate recordkeeping through the warehouse Management system (Unleashed).
Job Duties
- Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup according to schedule (load, pack, wrap, label, price).
- Receive and process warehouse stock products (pick, unload, label, store).
- Perform inventory controls and keep quality standards high for audits.
- Inspect deliveries for damage or discrepancies and report any discrepancies to Manager for reimbursements and record keeping.
- Prepare the pickings and distribution of daily orders around shelter, clinic, and of external orders.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment including:
- keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat and well-organized.
- cleaning and disinfecting of products, stock supply areas, and loading areas on a daily basis.
- Help enter information into the warehouse management system (Unleashed) or spreadsheets, ensuring accurate records of goods received, shipped, and stock levels.
- Operate and maintain warehouse vehicles and equipment such as forklift and pallet jacks.
- Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to organizational standards.
- Assist in compiling reports on stock levels, inventory discrepancies, or shipping performance for manager.
- Communicate with vendors or carriers about delivery or pickup schedules, delays, or issues with shipments.
- Help processing product returns, including verifying returned items, inspecting their condition, documenting the return, and ensuring they are restocked, returned to suppliers, or disposed of properly.
- Foster, promote, support and drive inclusion and influence others to promote, embrace and progress Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at THS.
- Be aware of and work within the regulations of all THS policies and protocol.
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA and its regulations including understanding and adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety Manual and any other rules and regulations established by THS including wearing proper safety equipment at all times.
- Work cooperatively with all volunteers and recognize the talent and commitment they bring to the Society.
- Other duties as required in the day-to-day operation of the society.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in storekeeping, inventory control, warehousing, or recordkeeping.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Willingness to acquire and maintain forklift certification.
- Proficiency in using computers, including Microsoft Excel, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to a warehouse management system (WMS).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to safely and legally operate a forklift after certification.
- Strong organization, time management, and analytic skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Work Conditions
- Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Occasional overtime.
- Operation of forklift and maintenance equipment.
- Regularly required to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds) and some combination of climbing and balancing to include stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odours, noise extremes, hazardous materials, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal attacks, animal bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
