Biovectra is recognized as a leader in the Contract Development and Manufacturing space of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients specializing in clinical to commercial scale production for microbial fermentation, synthetic small molecules including ADC, HPAPI, plasmid DNA, mRNA, LNP and sterile filling capabilities. With over 650 employees manufacturing at both the Windsor NS and Charlottetown PEI sites and supporting over 18/20 top pharma and biotech companies and 100+ active clients. Biovectra partners with biopharma and pharmaceutical companies to support the development of clinical or commercial API needs.

Reporting to the GM of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships Division (AMPD), the Business Unit Leader will lead Biovectra’s strategic direction, operations, and financial performance. This executive will have operating and budgetary responsibility for 4 key facilities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. With a focus on site Operations, you will be accountable for leading Biovectra strategy, executing operational goals, delivering profitable revenue growth, and operating profit while managing a diverse organization. You will be a key member of the AMPD Business Unit executive leadership team (ELT) and will work to advance the Biovectra business plan and play an important part in establishing Biovectra as a global leader in pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing services.

This role is an onsite role and will be based at our Prince Edward Island site.

Key position requirements include:

  • Domain knowledge / understanding of technologies/science and relevant market dynamics for the Biovectra market. Specifically:
    • Understanding of Microbial Fermentation and development technologies.
    • Understanding of synthetic small molecule technologies around ADC, HPAPI, peptide as well as LNP, mRNA and pDNA capabilities at manufacturing scale.
    • Understanding of the Microbial Fermentation and Synthetic Chemistry Market trends, and Client needs is important.
  • Proven P&L leadership experience of a business and/or commercial function.
  • Strategic and execution ability; managing operating budgets.
  • Experience in developing and executing critical goals to ensure top and bottom-line objectives are met.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing, launching, and managing complex products (leading life cycle management including clinical, development and commercialization).
  • Meaningful knowledge and established senior level relationships with organizations and individuals that are likely to be customers and partners for Biovectra.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage, interact with, influence, and retain the confidence of senior executives and peers at the executive level (internal and external to the company).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead leaders with a critical focus on actively developing, retaining, and attracting talent in a growing dynamic business in a competitive market.
  • The ability to attract and recruit top talent, motivate the team, delegate effectively, celebrate diversity within the team, and manage performance; widely viewed as a strong developer of others.
  • Based in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • P&L responsibility for the sites operating budget for NS and PEI locations.
  • Define, advance, and execute key strategies and initiatives for NS / PEI locations.
  • Build organizational capabilities; attract, retain, and develop talented leaders and team members for the overall organization.
  • Deliver results; align on the key financial and business deliverables with stakeholders and consistently meet these deliverables on the timelines agreed to.
  • Responsible for oversight of day-to-day site Operations with a hands-on approach to drive teamwork, critical thinking, and results.
  • Work closely with Senior leaders in Business Development, Quality and Finance to ensure business direction, site compliance / quality and performance is maintained.
  • Responsible for Product Development oversight and the timely execution of process development, method development and overall program onboarding.
  • Focuses on driving operational excellence to improve efficiencies and exceed client needs.
  • Continuously seeks new or improved site performance and client satisfaction through product, technology, and service innovation.
  • Focus on Biovectra employee culture and Agilent values to drive customer value.
  • Maintain customer trust through delivering superior compliance and regulatory performance.

Qualifications

  • BS in a life science related field; PhD, M.S. or MBA preferred.
  • Prior Senior level management experience: General Manager/ multi-site leadership experience preferred along with 10+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Product Development leadership, Business Development leadership, Engineering leadership, Quality and Compliance Leadership, Manufacturing Leadership, or related positions with increasing levels of management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in leading a diverse team while growing revenues, ideally with a company, new business unit or product line experiencing expansion and growth amidst a competitive market environment.
  • Experience in Contract Development and Manufacturing industry with focus on Pharmaceutical Operations.
  • Global experience; with customers and competitors.
  • Domain knowledge / understanding of key technologies/science and relevant market dynamics for Biovectra market.
  • Proven P&L leadership experience of a business and/or business function.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing, launching, and managing complex products in a cGMP regulated environment.
  • Strategic and execution ability; proven experience in developing and executing complex strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated track record of results utilizing interpersonal, relationship-building skills required in leading complex teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct or indirect experience in Green Field, Brown Field or large scale CAPEX projects.

Demonstrated capabilities in the following core areas:

Additional Details

This job has a full time weekly schedule. The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $268,000.00 - $418,750.00/yr CAD plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
