Caregivers Alberta is seeking a volunteer Treasurer to join its Board of Directors.

Who is Caregivers Alberta?

We provide resources, support and education to help unpaid caregivers provide care to family members or friends. Our services are wide-ranging to match the needs of caregivers: from our caregiver support line to one-on-one coaching and peer support groups to our award-winning caregiver education program, COMPASS for the Caregiver.

We serve caregivers, employers and healthcare professionals across Alberta. We are continually expanding our programs and support services, evolving them in response to caregivers’ needs. Beyond that, we also give caregivers the tools and resources they need to be more confident and resilient and, ultimately, create a sustainable caregiving journey.

Position Scope/Summary:

The Treasurer is the lead board director of financial management and oversight. The Treasurer will have a close working relationship with other officers such as the President and Secretary, and with the organization’s Executive Director and Accountant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend Board meetings regularly.
  • Chair the Finance & Audit Committee.
  • Form part of the Executive Committee.
  • Form good working relationship with the Accountant and Executive Director in order to present financial statements during Board meetings.
  • Help Board members understand the financial statements and answer questions as required.
  • Signatory on cheques, EFT payments as required.
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting and present the Treasurer’s report.
  • Review and sign the annual audited financial statements.
  • Review the annual budget and present to the Board for approval.
  • Provide advice to the Board as required.

Board Structure:

  • The Caregivers Alberta Board is a Governance Board.
  • The Board meets four times per year via Teams. Meetings take place from 6 pm – 8 pm.
  • The Finance & Audit Committee meets approximately four times per year via Teams, or as required.
  • The Board tries to have one in-person meeting per year.
