In support of the mission and mandate of Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE), the incumbent provides support and advocacy services to youth and adults living on a low income to assist them to achieve financial independence. The Voluntary Trusteeship Program Worker assists youth, adults, and persons living on a low income to become fully integrated into all aspects of financial independence (i.e., education, employment, recreation, home, social, etc.).

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Accepting requests for service and conducting assessments of individuals to determine eligibility for the program.
• Assisting clients in making a monthly budget according to their income (OW, ODSP, CPP, OAS, etc.) and helping them adhere to the agreed upon financial plan.
• Meeting and working with individuals to realize established goals and monitoring these goals on an ongoing basis.
• Working with individuals to assist them to acquire the skills and resources necessary to live independently in the community.
• Coaching and teaching financial literacy skills to individuals receiving support.
• Working in collaboration with other community services to identify needs of individuals receiving support and making appropriate referrals following the principles of user self-determination.
• Advocate along with, or on behalf of, people whose rights to services, or opportunities may actually or potentially be compromised. This includes advising people of their choices and/or rights and responsibilities and/or potential consequences. This may include but not be limited to assistance in contacting an MPP, writing letters, making phone calls, obtaining a lawyer, interfacing with Children’s Aid Societies or other service providers, landlords, employers, educational systems, family members, etc.
• The Support Worker will ensure the individual’s access to the basic necessities of life, and their ability to exercise their legal rights. Every effort is made to respect and support the individual’s relationship to significant others - family, friends, etc.
• Meeting with OW and ODSP to execute agreements for Trusteeship.
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience Required

• University Degree (preferably Social Work)
• Experience working with youths and adults with disabilities or on low incomes is an asset.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and use of your own vehicle
• Excellent conflict resolution and communication skills
• First Aid Training is an asset
• French Language is an asset

Job Type: Full-time

Shift Information: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends required.

Pay: $49,368 per annum. ($27.12/hr)
