Job description

Internal Posting: This is an internal posting only for the benefit of existing BCGEU members and is posted in accordance with the current collective agreement.


The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a temporary, full-time Visitor Information Centre Summer Student to join the team at the Okanagan Falls office location.


The temporary, full-time position is responsible for assisting with a variety of administrative duties related to the Visitor Information Centre which may include data entry, supporting social media postings, responding to in-person, email and phone inquiries from the public as per Destination BC requirements, and providing support to the office team.


Qualifications

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Hold “Student” status meaning that the individual must be attending, just completed or returning to school, college, or university.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of Social Media platforms.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
  • Flexibility to work weekends.

NOTE: This position may be partially or fully funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program provided by Service Canada. Canada Summer Jobs supports program objectives by helping young people obtain quality summer work experiences.


This temporary, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The wage for the position is $21.84 per hour (January-June) and $22.06 (July-December), plus 15% in lieu of all benefits.
