Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Vice President, Human Resources to lead and oversee all aspects of the HR function across our organization. This role requires a strategic leader with a proven ability to manage a multi-site workforce, support a growing HR team, and align HR initiatives with business objectives. The VP, HR will work closely with the executive team to drive cultural transformation, enhance workforce planning, and align HR strategies with organizational objectives. This position requires flexibility and frequent travel to multiple locations to support operations and build strong relationships with employees and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Provide strategic direction to senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and HR alignment with business objectives.
    • Collaborate with executives to ensure alignment with the company’s mission, values, and long-term goals.
    • Serve as a mentor and resource to the HR team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • HR Team Development and Support
    • Offer guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to HR team members to strengthen their skills and capabilities.
    • Support HR leaders and business partners in resolving complex issues, ensuring consistency in approach and decision-making.
    • Lead regular HR team meetings and strategy sessions to align goals and share best practices.
    • Collaborate with the health & safety team to ensure HR team is well-equipped to address workplace safety concerns and promote a culture of safety.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions Integration
    • Act as the HR integration lead for mergers and acquisitions, ensuring seamless transitions of acquired entities into existing HR systems and programs.
    • Work closely with former owners and leadership to assess risks, enforce policies, and harmonize organizational practices.
  • Multi-Site Workforce Management
    • Travel regularly to various company locations to engage with employees, managers, and HR teams, fostering strong connections and supporting on-site needs.
    • Ensure the consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and compliance standards across all sites.
  • Talent Acquisition and Retention
    • Oversee strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent, particularly for hard-to-fill and high-demand roles in competitive industries.
    • Champion succession planning, retention strategies, and leadership development initiatives to support a robust talent pipeline.
  • Labor Relations and Compliance
    • Lead labor relations efforts, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements and managing union relationships.
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws, employment regulations, and internal policies to mitigate risks and maintain alignment.
  • Compensation and Benefits
    • Oversee the development and execution of competitive compensation and benefits programs.
    • Collaborate with benefits brokers to negotiate renewals and optimize employee offerings.
  • Employee Engagement and Organizational Development
    • Facilitate company-wide employee engagement surveys, focus groups, and the development of actionable plans based on feedback.
    • Drive cultural transformation initiatives to enhance employee experience and foster a high-performing work environment.
  • Change Management and Organizational Strategy
    • Lead organizational restructuring, process improvement, and change management efforts in alignment with business goals.
    • Manage and oversee HR systems implementations and process optimizations, including HRIS upgrades.
  • Budget and Operational Leadership
    • Develop and manage the HR department budget to align resources with strategic priorities.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams to lead HR projects and drive business results.
    • Serve as the key contact for immigration cases, including visa processing and compliance.

Key Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation required.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with a proven record in managing multi-site operations.
  • Extensive experience working in unionized environments, including labor relations, collective bargaining, and grievance resolution.
  • Expertise in mergers and acquisitions, labor relations, and employee engagement strategies.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex employee relations issues and leading successful negotiations.
  • Proficiency in HR technologies.
  • Strong change management capability, with experience leading organizational transformations, driving process improvements, and adapting to ever-changing environments in a complex business.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel regularly to various locations and adapt to changing business needs.
