About the role
We are looking for a collaborative and strategically minded leader to drive financial excellence within our organization. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee the financial and risk management functions within APS. As a member of the executive team, you will participate in the development and execution of APS’s strategic plan. The CFO is accountable for the development of a financial strategy and supporting metrics, the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve assets, reporting accurate financial results, and ensuring compliance with all governing authorities.
Key areas of oversight and responsibility are:
- Strategic vision and leadership: Partner with the CEO and executive team to set financial and strategic objectives, acting as a financial advisor on planning, budgeting, and cash flow management. Effectively communicate and present key financial issues to the APS board and its committees.
- Risk Management and Compliance: Oversee internal control programs to ensure reliable risk identification and management at APS, ensuring compliance with business plans, procedures, acts, and regulations.
- Financial leadership: Lead and oversee the budgeting process, managing all accounting operations, including payables, receivables, and pension payroll. Collaborate with business leaders to set long-term financial goals and ensure the budget aligns with these objectives.
- Team Engagement: Lead a team by fostering growth and collaboration through ongoing coaching and development. Act as the chief steward and innovation channel for team operations, cultivating a high-performance, collaborative environment where contributions are recognized.

The Ideal Candidate
You will have proven experience in senior leadership roles, demonstrating a vision-oriented mindset and strong organizational skills. You will excel in strategic leadership, planning and execution, and risk management. With excellent interpersonal skills, you can motivate and inspire teams, fostering an inclusive environment. You will effectively manage relationships with diverse stakeholders and ensure accountability and transparency in providing strategic financial leadership. Key competencies include visionary and organizational awareness, problem-solving, and managing change.
What you bring to the role
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (MBA or Master's Degree highly desirable).
- Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation.
- At least 10 years of directly related experience.
- Experience with Risk Management and/or Internal Audit evidenced by a designation or certification (e.g. CIA, CRMA, CFSA, CFRE) by a recognized risk, fraud prevention, internal audit or compliance organization.
- Public sector pension administration industry knowledge is desirable.
- Experience in financial reporting and audit practices.
- Understanding of Public Sector Accounting regulations and industry best practices.
- Knowledge of the Public Sector Pension Plans Act and Regulations, Employment Pension Plans Act, Income Tax Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Financial Administration Act.
