Job Summary:
Everest Insurance Company of Canada, a member of Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking a Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for their Toronto office. The CFO for Everest Insurance Company of Canada will report into the CFO of North America, Insurance and secondary dotted line to the CEO of Everest Insurance Company of Canada. This position will be responsible for strategic planning and leadership, setting a long-term financial strategy and the overall health of the organization in close partnership with the CFO and CEO. This individual will work to ensure adherence to key risk management practices and procedures while overseeing functions such as technical accounting and controllership, broker receivables, reinsurance accounting, compliance, and strategic planning. You will also play a key role in any strategic projects impacting the finance team.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization's long-term goals.
Accounting and Finance
- Oversee the finance function including technical accounting and controllership, broker receivables, reinsurance accounting, compliance, and strategic planning.
- Oversee the timely monthly and quarterly closing processes, ensuring adherence to both internal (local and corporate) and external deliverables.
- Oversee and manage all accounting, auditing, and finance-related compliance functions related to the insurance company.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting for insurance operations, including timely settlement of broker receivables and claims payments/funding arrangements.
- Actively monitor and control all ledger reconciliations and trial balance sign-off.
- Maintain and recommend improvements to key operational processes (minimize process risk).
- Be the key point of contact for internal and external audit engagements.
- Lead the annual planning/budgeting process for underwriting results.
- Effectively manage internal relationships across all departments and throughout Everest Group of companies.
Corporate Governance
- Communicate and engage with the Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and local laws and regulations.
People Leadership
- Set strategy and goals for the local finance team.
- Supervise, manage, and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Financial Reporting
- Coordinate consistent and timely quarterly and annual regulatory financial statements and returns.
- Monitor financial performance and prepare quarterly reports for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Work closely with management to ensure compliance and the timely reporting of all reinsurance arrangements (including billings and establishing appropriate collateral where required).
- Oversee monthly and quarterly premium analytics with the management team.
- Coordinate all regulatory tax income tax and premium filings.
Risk Management
- Identify and manage financial risks, including market, credit, and operational risks.
Capital Management
- Make decisions regarding investment funding and capital structure.
Work Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum 15 years of working experience in the insurance industry.
- Strong understanding of OSFI framework and financial regulatory requirements.
- Executive leadership experience and proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Experience with Oracle General Ledger not required but a strong plus.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely with Senior Executives, Regulators, and Auditors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Qualified accountant (CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
- University degree or equivalent.
