Team Medicine Veterinary Technician

Alta Vista Animal Hospital has an opportunity for a full-time Veterinary Technician (Team Medicine). This role reports directly to the Technical Resources Manager, General Practice.
Schedule: 32-40 hours per week, weekdays with some evenings (our GP department closes at 7 pm!) and Saturdays on rotation (1 in 4!).
The Team Medicine Technician works directly with our General Practice veterinarians in all aspects relating to patient care. The Team Medicine Technician will work in the exam room with the veterinarian to acquire detailed medical history and educate clients on various preventative diseases, routine care and dietary options.
Organizing the flow of the day, responding to client inquiries, and keeping track of pending and completed laboratory tests will be orchestrated by the Team Medicine Technician. Follow-up phone calls to assess a patient’s recovery from surgery, illness, dietary changes, or medication tolerances are critical.
General Responsibilities:
- Communicate with clients (obtain histories, discharges, updates, euthanasia)
- Create and present estimates to clients
- Help maintain the flow of the doctor's schedules/appointments
- Create treatment sheets on iPads for doctors to finalize
- Restrain patients for examination or procedures
- Fill prescriptions to go home with clients
- Send and receive phone calls and emails
- Manage daily tasks (lab & radiology reports, filing, callbacks/updates, enter charges, obtaining records, etc.)
- Ensure patients are clean and comfortable
- Clean and maintain the exam rooms, overall treatment floor and hospital
- Work in a very high volume, fast-paced environment
- Multitask and prioritize cases and daily duties
- Maintain excellent time management skills
- Communicate and collaborate in a cohesive team environment
- Assist in the Treatment area or Client Service Desk may be warranted based on the candidate’s skills
Requirements:
- Veterinary Technician college diploma.
- Would consider an experienced Veterinary Assistant for this role.
- Excellent client service skills.
- Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral)
- Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg.
Preferred:
- Fluently bilingual in French and English (Reading, Writing and Oral).
- Previous experience in client education related to preventative medicine, vaccine protocols, nutrition, etc.
- Proficient in reading and analyzing laboratory samples including ear swabs, skin scrapings, and basic fine needle aspirate cytology.
