Established in 1986 as a resource centre for dance in British Columbia, The Dance Centre offers a range of activities which is unparalleled in Canadian dance. We present performances and events, building audiences and nurturing public awareness; invest in programs, resources and support for dance professionals working in all genres; operate Scotiabank Dance Centre, a cultural hub and one of Canada’s flagship dance facilities which welcomes tens of thousands of visitors annually; and work to promote BC dance.
We are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xwməθkwəy’əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl’ílwəta?/Selilwitulh (Tsleil- Waututh) Nations.
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Venue and Services Manager addresses the needs of the facility, and provides essential services which support The Dance Centre’s role as an internationally recognized centre for dance.
This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule of 40 hours/week (excluding statutory holidays). It is an in-person position, with very limited ability to work remotely, and requires some evening and weekend shifts. This job is for a person that loves to excel and enjoys working in a dynamic and diverse environment dedicated to community service. You are passionate about the arts and curious at heart.
The Venue and Services Manager is critical to the successful operations of Scotiabank Dance Centre. You ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly, working with other members of the team.
Reporting to the ED, you provide leadership to the team you supervise (Visitor Services Associates, Front of House Managers), work with the on-site property manager team, follow through on contractor and supplier related matters, and ensure effective implementation of procedures and policies, and that resources are in place to support the delivery of programs and services to a diverse membership and client base.
Though the scope of this position is broad, The Dance Centre accommodates work arrangements to ensure that employees are able to accomplish their work while maintaining their personal obligations and interests outside of their careers.

• Preferred 2-3 years in an arts-related environment in a similar capacity, preferably within a facility/venue and/or live event space, combined with experience or equivalent diploma/certificate;
• Demonstrates a curious nature combined with a strong desire to excel;
• The ability to model professional, positive, courteous and effective relationship with peers, partners and patrons/clients, with a business approach that prioritizes integrity;
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to retain a top-level perspective, ability to communicate effectively, with problem-solving/prioritizing skills; ability to stay calm, confident and positive in stressful situations, and make appropriate business decisions quickly;
• Strong written and oral communication skills (English); demonstrated experience in business accounting and business correspondence; customer service-oriented skills;
• Experience/understanding of human resources and recruitment; strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise, delegate, and train entry-level staff;
• Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure towards deadlines;
• Affinity for an inclusive, diverse and dynamic environment;
• Proficiency with computers (Microsoft 365, Adobe) with the ability to learn new software applications such as EventPro scheduling software;
• Must be Serving it Right certified;
• Understanding of the importance of health and safety procedures;
• Understanding of facility operations; communicate effectively with suppliers, trades;
• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time for the purpose of facility inspections, ability to lift/move up to 50lbs without difficulty;
• Excellent record of accomplishment with willingness to adapt and learn new skills;
• Flexibility in hours is periodically required to attend to evening or weekend events.
