SBM is currently seeking an intermediate level Urban Planner with industry experience. The successful candidate will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team researching, analyzing, and preparing land development projects and planning studies for private and public sector clients. Reporting to the Division Manager and Principals, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a range of exciting land development projects across southwestern Ontario. This role is in office and will work out of London or Kitchener ON.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and coordinate the submission of development applications, including Official Plan Amendments, Zoning Bylaw Amendments, Site Plan Applications, minor variances, and consent applications, and Plans of Subdivisions.
  2. Organize public consultation meetings and lead community information meetings.
  3. Research, analyze, and prepare due diligence studies.
  4. Manage and maintain team workload/backlog and collaborate with other disciplines.
  5. Coordinate, plan, schedule, and conduct the technical aspects of land development projects.
  6. Maintain and strengthen client relationships and become a member of the business development team.
  7. Ensure professionalism and personal accountability for time management, quality control, troubleshooting of project work, and meeting timelines and budget.

Skills / Qualifications:

  1. A relevant Urban Planning degree and Full membership in the OPPI (or eligibility to apply) RPP designation or eligible for RPP within 6 months.
  2. Industry planning experience of a minimum of 5 years.
  3. Experience working in consulting.
  4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  5. Office, graphics, and design computer-based applied skills.
  6. Strong time management and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to work both independently with minimal direction and in teams.
  8. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  9. Driven to learn and grow professionally.
