What We Are Looking For

The Unit Secretary is a valuable member of the Emergency team and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties. The clerical aspect of the role includes: filing, recording, organizing and inputting physician orders, ordering supplies, photocopying, patient registration as necessary, booking appointments as necessary and performing special projects as requested. The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients and/or hospital personnel on the department, answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel and giving information related to patient care as authorized by a registered nurse.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Previous Emergency Department unit secretary experience required.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Proficient computer and typing skills.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills essential.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast paced environment essential.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • MEDITECH computer experience preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail essential.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices.

Work Schedule

The successful candidate must be available to work 7.5 hour shifts Days (7:30-15:30), Evenings (15:30-23:30), and Nights (23:30-7:30), including weekdays, weekends and holidays. Please note schedules may change due to operational needs.
