Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site. The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border, is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated halfway between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear, and deer. About The Role

Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off - 12 hour days

Position Reports To: Safety Superintendent

Position Overview: Working closely with Underground Operations, the role of Underground Safety Advisor is to promote, coordinate, and implement activities to maintain and improve high levels of health, safety, and security in the underground setting. The incumbent will develop and implement programs and activities necessary to prevent incidents that may result in personal injury or property damage, prepare emergency response plans, support industrial hygiene management including associated testing, and provide Common Core training for staff. This position is based full-time at the Mine Site and consists of 12 hour days on a 7 Days On, 7 Days Off rotation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement and convey health and safety procedures
  2. Develop underground program and procedures and participate in risk assessments
  3. Inform supervisors and staff about the health and safety content of training courses
  4. Work with other operations to determine current safety issues
  5. Respond to queries and provide information to all employees and safety committees
  6. Assist in the management of complex health and safety issues relating to the underground environment
  7. Participate and/or lead incident/accident investigations
  8. Implement activities for employee health and safety
  9. Participate in toolbox talks of departments
  10. Develop toolbox topics
  11. Ensure the effective implementation of all health and safety related activities
  12. Maintain the Contractor Safety Management Program
  13. Adhere to policies and procedures related to health and safety and follow established procedures and quality standards
  14. Prepare reports and complete required documentation related to health and safety
  15. Ensure required reference material is current and consistent with regulations and policies
  16. Establish and manage a data tracking system
  17. Provide technical H&S assistance with capital and construction-based projects related to health and safety
  18. Support compliance with Ontario Mine Rescue requirements

Qualifications

  1. College or Technical diploma in a related field is an asset
  2. CSRP or equivalent is an asset
  3. Operational experience in the UG mining field
  4. 3 - 5 years of related health and safety experience
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants as they pertain to underground mining
  6. Experience in a recognized Mine Rescue program
  7. Strong organization skills with the ability to plan and schedule programs and activities
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  9. Ability to function with all levels of the organization with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  10. Train-the-Trainer certification and/or adult training accreditation will be considered an asset
