Job description

The School of Child and Youth Care undergraduate program at the University of Victoria offers a vibrant and diverse academic program that is dedicated to supporting child, youth, family and community wellbeing through relevant, research and interdisciplinary scholarship; effective advocacy and leadership; high quality and innovative teaching; a strong and dedicated focus on practice; and a commitment to social justice in local, national and international contexts. The program is offered through a blend of online and on campus program delivery.


Reporting to the Administrative Officer, this position provides administrative support to the School of Child and Youth Care distributed learning and on campus undergraduate programs, faculty, sessional instructors, and students, which includes course administration, responding to inquiries, maintaining databases, producing statistical spreadsheets, and preparing and editing correspondence and other departmental materials.


This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to 3 years’ experience working within a comparable environment.

  • Advanced proficiency with computer applications (i.e. MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems and online course management systems).
  • Ability to adapt to change and learn new software.
  • Strong technology support skills and knowledge.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with procedural and technical change.
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment with frequent interruptions, and minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment, as well as the larger UVic community and external agencies.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a community-building team environment, including external partners and students.
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail, time management, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, good judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict and often emergent deadlines.

Assets/Preferences

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with online course delivery.
  • Experience with UVic systems including FMIS, ARES, AIRS, BANNER, FAST, Cascade, Brightspace.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
