Join our dynamic and dedicated team as we continue to develop capacity within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the greater unceded Algonquin territory. With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.

We are recruiting for a Tribunal and Circle Coordinator. This is a full-time, remote position, with some requirements to work on-site as may be required in the planning of tribunals and circles. The role requires the employee to operate under tight deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of quality of service.

Position Summary

The Tribunal and Circle Coordinator’s role will be to organize all aspects of tribunal and circle gatherings, including location and facility details, scheduling all participants and ensuring all relevant documents are provided. The Coordinator ensures the proper recording of events transpiring during tribunal and/or circle, as well as the delivery of accurate correspondence to legal as required.

The Tribunal and Circle Coordinator creates relevant training and materials for tribunal and circle participants and ensures the timely facilitation of that training as needed. This position supports the role of Tribunal and Circle Administrator, as their direct supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow the Seven Grandfather teachings as it relates to Nigig and its vision, mission and values.
  • Be exceptionally familiar with the child and family well-being law of Pikwakangan, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, acting in accordance with this in all activities.
  • Coordinate all parties involved in either tribunals and/or circles as required.
  • Engages in intercommunity relations, fostering connections and collaborations with other indigenous communities, organizations, and stakeholders, and represents both Pikwakanagan and Nigig’s interests and values in external engagements.
  • Serves as an advocate within the Algonquin territory, representing the best interests of children, youth and families.

Qualifications:

  • Be a recognized member of Pikwakanagan-Algonquin community.
  • Have an understanding of the social work field, particularly with respect to child well-being.
  • Have 2-3 years of experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Have an understanding of the current challenges faced by Algonquins both within the community and territory.
  • Knowledge of Algonquin culture, traditions and practices.
  • Knowledge of local, regional, and provincial indigenous and non-indigenous services.
  • Being certified in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
  • Provide a clear police record check including a vulnerable sector screening.
