Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in transportation management is a plus.
- Previous experience in school transportation preferred.
- Current PA Class A or B CDL, Passenger and School Bus Endorsements, and clean driving record required.
- Have or be willing to obtain certification as a Pennsylvania School Bus Instructor.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Ability to effectively manage a diverse team of employees.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer software and systems commonly used in office and school transportation settings. Experience with school bus routing software a plus.
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations governing school transportation and commercial drivers.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, particularly in emergency situations requiring quick decision-making and problem-solving.
- The position requires an individual to have a thorough knowledge of the Southeastern Pennsylvania region and be able to drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. Must be flexible.
Description:
The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. The Transportation Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students, contributing to the overall success of the school community, and assists the Director of Transportation in administering the Department in alignment with District goals.
They are responsible for assisting in the oversight of and providing guidance to department staff as well as communicating routinely with school staff/administrators and parent/public callers. The role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Staff:
- Assist in the selection, evaluation, supervision, and positive coaching of department employees in both classroom and on-the-road environments.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource to department staff who seek guidance/advice on unique aspects of their role.
- Support Transportation Office and Maintenance staff by actively assisting in dispatch operations as necessary.
- Supervise the coordination of all field trips and athletic trips.
- Assist the Director in conducting investigations, when necessary, as a result of student and/or staff behaviors/choices.
- Serve as the primary administrator in the department when the Director is not on duty.
Operations:
- Assist in the creation and modification of school transportation routes and bus stop safety investigations as necessary.
- Actively participate in school bus and commercial driver training programs, including one-on-one assignment-specific training as necessary.
- Drive school bus routes and/or extracurricular trips when staffing needs are not otherwise met.
- Work closely with the Director to maintain clear planning and communication paths to ensure effective departmental operation, regardless of which administrator is on duty.
- As an essential employee, actively and in-person assist the District during snow removal, storm mitigation, or other emergency operations which may close schools to in-person learning.
- Assist in accident investigations where necessary.
- Maintain an understanding of absence management, payroll processing, transportation state reporting, and other mission critical functions of the department to serve as a backup in the absence of the Director.
Communications:
- Communicate with district staff, residents, and other stakeholders by phone and email to provide good customer service experiences when questions and complaints arise.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Transportation Department for District Administrators when the Director of Transportation is not present.

Terms of employment:
Full-time, 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, Act 93 position. Position following the School District calendar.
