The Firestone Family began farming in Vancouver, WA, in 1896. We are a fully integrated grower processing operation for domestic and export fruit customers. Our fruit is harvested at the peak of ripeness, processed in our state-of-the-art facility, and packed for shipment, ensuring quality in every product from the farm where it was grown to the finished bag in the consumer’s freezer.
Job Summary:
The Transportation Manager oversees the FPF’s fleet and driver team and has oversight of FPF’s partnerships with third-party carriers and third-party warehouses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state requirements and laws (FSMA and DOT regulations). Performs audit of driver logs. Manages and leads safety campaign; driver and fleet files are in order.
- Ensure FPF fleet effectively promotes FPF brand.
- Oversee procurement (lease versus buy), maintenance and ongoing registration and licensing of FPF fleet.
- KPI management—minimize expense per mile; manage transportation expenditures and budget.
- Monitor status of all transfers and inbound loads, flagging and following up with carriers and colleagues in Inventory and Sales concerning pickup and delivery exceptions.
- Communicate transfers and inbound activity with Purchasing Team, Warehouse Supervisors and Production Planner.
- Review accuracy of invoice and follow up with vendors to address errors prior to approving them for payment by accounting.
- May perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in supply chain management, business management or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of five years responsibility supervising transportation and/or logistics function, preferably with either a 3PL or transporter of frozen and refrigerated food products.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of federal motor carrier safety (FMSCA) and state transportation regulations.
- Working knowledge of routing software and transportation management software (TMS).
- Minimum three years of transportation supervisory experience including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and budgeting (operating and capital).
- Working knowledge of transportation budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Explorer, and Microsoft Outlook. Previous work experience with ERP strongly preferred.
- Adaptable.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to 20 pounds.
- Fluent English.
