Job description

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Designer / E.I.T. to join our Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) department, located in the Mississauga office. Reporting to the department manager, this position will be responsible for various transportation designs, from conceptual design to detail design and into construction for transportation-related projects that involve Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and various other Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Eligible for professional licensing within PEO is an asset.
  • 1 - 5 years of related experience is an asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is an asset.
  • Excellent technical, analytical writing and presentation skills.
  • Great communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Use of a vehicle (more specifically for construction inspections assignments) is an asset.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Design and develop systems specifications, including layout plans, wiring diagrams, communications schematics, and detailed drawings.
  • Collaboration within the ITS team and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Perform various calculations (i.e. voltage drop, cable pulling tension, optical loss, etc.).
  • Perform quantity calculations.
  • Prepare working drawings.
  • Write specifications, estimate costs and materials.
  • Write technical documents, memoranda, and reports.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance.
  • Review designs, drawings, documents, and calculations.
  • Field work is required both design-related and for construction inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.
