Your Opportunity

Our transmission line engineering group has an opportunity for a Transmission Line Designer for our offices at Burnaby (British Columbia), Calgary (Alberta), and Waterloo (Ontario). Hybrid work model to work from home is possible. You will work on several power line projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer in a dynamic, vibrant, and collaborative team environment. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow your career as transmission line engineer.

Your Key Responsibilities

1. Assisting the transmission team with engineering and design services of power transmission line projects from conceptual design through construction.
2. Performing design/drafting following industry codes and client standards for the overhead transmission projects.
3. Route selection for overhead power lines.
4. Modeling and analysis of transmission line and structures in PLS-CADD utilizing LiDAR.
5. Supporting project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
6. Assisting in the development of design deliverables through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
7. Participating in site visits as required.
8. Attending project coordination meetings and communicating with internal team members and/or external consultants.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

1. Familiarity with PLS-CADD software.
2. Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation.
3. Experience with GIS mapping is an asset.
4. Familiar with North American overhead power line industry standards.
5. Experience developing design drawings for transmission or distribution project.
6. Sound understanding of project management systems.
7. Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in teams.
8. Time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
9. Strong interest in developing new skills and career advancement.
10. Good communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate project issues with the project team and clients.
11. Organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.

Education and Experience

1. Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university.
2. Registered with the Engineering Provincial Association.
3. Minimum 3 years of overhead power line (transmission or distribution) design and engineering experience within utilities, EPC or consulting organizations.
