Organizational Information
Purpose of your Position: A Traffic Officer performs parking enforcement functions as the primary role.
Duties
- Patrols City streets, parking lots, beach accesses and other properties to monitor for parking infractions and other contraventions of municipal Traffic Bylaw.
- Issues violation tickets for Traffic Bylaw infractions.
- Arranges for towing of illegally parked or abandoned vehicles.
- Receives and responds to service requests and complaints pertaining to various Traffic Bylaw issues.
- Maintains accurate detailed records of service requests and complaints and of response taken.
- Performs traffic control duties, providing control and direction of traffic for emergency situations.
- Prepares and submits evidence for court or adjudication purposes; attends hearings as required.
- Performs collections and minor maintenance/servicing of parking equipment.
- Initiates requests/documentation for required vandalism repairs or other action to rectify deficiencies that are identified in public parking areas (e.g. damaged signage, etc.)
- Communicates with RCMP and/or Bylaw dispatch to report possible infractions of City bylaws where bylaw enforcement action may be necessary.
- Communicates with RCMP and/or Bylaw dispatch to report possible infractions of Provincial Statutes or the Criminal Code where police action may be necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Justice Institute – Bylaw Enforcement Level I Program, or recognized equivalent education
- Two to Three years of relevant (enforcement) experience
- BC Driver’s License – Class 5
- RCMP Security Clearance
