Job description

Job Summary:

Plans, develops and administers the Company’s freight transportation programs. Coordinates a team of transportation, traffic and customs specialists. Acts as a leader in facilitating and initiating material transportation activities and processes, in accordance with the company's objectives, principles, mission and processes.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the transportation of goods to and from (loading, LTL, air freight) on behalf of the Company in time and quantity necessary to ensure the operations of the plant.
  2. Evaluate rates and routes and recommends programs to save money and improve performance.
  3. Responsible for filling and managing losses, damages, and shortage claims with carriers when required.
  4. Responsible for maintaining/developing appropriate indicators related to punctuality, transportation costs, quality, and health and safety standards and implementing actions to achieve them.
  5. Develops short- and long-term traffic objectives, including planning a strategy to achieve standards and measure progress. The latter must take into account applicable government requirements (e.g., the CSA/CSA Customs Self-Assessment program).
  6. Establishes traffic policies and procedures and ensures that they are standardized and adhered to by the team.
  7. Coordinates performance monitoring and ensures compliance of quality, deliveries, and safety standards with major carriers.
  8. Collaborates in the development of logistics programs as well as various improvement actions.
  9. Supervises the logistics coordinator(s), including performance evaluations.
  10. Ensures the establishment and maintenance of a structure to ensure the department's mission at all times (urgent deliveries, transport problems, customs, or others).
  11. Performs all other related tasks as requested.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  1. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the fields of transportation, traffic, and procurement.
  2. Bachelor's degree in administration, engineering, or relevant equivalent discipline.
  3. Demonstrate communication, negotiation, and cost-control skills.
  4. Has the ability to manage multiple priorities and is comfortable working under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  5. Proficient in the MS Office suite and knowledge of SAP (Asset).
  6. Available and accountable for emergencies.
  7. Ability to work in a team as well as with direct reports working remotely.
  8. Ability to manage staff.
  9. Bilingualism (French-English) is required (spoken and written).
