Job Description:

Working with general supervision, the Towed Array Technician performs the following job duties:

  • Assembles tests, troubleshoots and repairs a wide range of electronics and electronic assemblies and sub assemblies.
  • Assembles tests, troubleshoots and repairs a wide range of mechanical and electro/mechanical assemblies and sub assemblies.
  • Assembles, inspects, tests, troubleshoots and repairs complete systems in accordance with specifications, diagrams and drawings.
  • Assembles various types of strength members in accordance with specifications, diagrams and drawings.
  • Operates various types of environmental chambers.
  • Applies their knowledge to provide timely testing and troubleshooting on complex products.
  • Advanced configuration of test equipment.
  • Builds electronic jigs and fixtures.
  • Employs electrostatic discharge precautions.
  • Sets up and operates test equipment and maintains test records for operator verification.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments to ensure continuity if required.
  • Maintains test equipment.
  • Compiles and analyses records, statistics and formulates test and failure reports as required.
  • Applies formula and calculations as required.
  • Manages the implementation of engineering changes including accessing information, communicating to team members and maintaining configuration of the build.
  • Maintains line quality and output in accordance with production schedule.
  • Recognizes and initiates investigations for workmanship and material non-conformances.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Assists in design of jigs and fixtures.
  • Using knowledge and experience, proposes design changes.
  • Maintains tools and work area in a safe, orderly and clean manner.

Required Skills:

  • Grade 12 with recognized community college technician/technologist qualification or equivalent experience and capability.
  • The successful person must be able to gain the appropriate Canadian government security clearance and satisfy all requirements to be able to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects.
  • Must have the willingness to work day, evening and back shift.

Desired Skills:

  • Up to date knowledge of electronic materials, principles, circuit construction and quality control procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of recognized industry workmanship standards.
  • Soldering skills compliant with recognized industry workmanship standards.
  • Willingness to work from verbal instructions and sketch drawings / wiring diagrams.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficient in the use of basic software applications such as email, web browser, word processing and database operation.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Good understanding and application of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Willingness to maintain a high level of productivity without compromising quality standards.
  • Attitude: has a positive can-do attitude in everyday work. Is able to deal with and support change.
  • Must have great attention to detail.
  • Teamwork: is capable of close collaboration and cooperation with others to get the job done. Builds trust and respect among fellow team members.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willing to use hand held power tools, (Router, Dremel, Drill, Drill press, etc).
  • Willing to operate overhead cranes and winches.
  • Willing to operate common test equipment (DMM, Oscilloscope, Measuring devices, etc).
