Overview

Under the direction of the Director of the Energy North Operations Division, is responsible for providing mechanical technical expertise and field engineering support services for the operations and maintenance of power systems and all mechanical assets for NTPC’s Energy North Zone generation, LNG storage and handling, residual heating and other systems. Also supports solar, wind and other renewable generation technologies as required. Scope includes all communities, buildings, plants and facilities in NTPC’s Energy North Zone. Acts as ENO’s conduit to facilitate best business practices in coordination and cooperation with Asset Management, Project Management and Engineering.

Responsibilities

  1. Acts as ENO’s conduit to facilitate best business practices in coordination and cooperation with Asset Management, Project Management and Engineering.
  2. Together with operating staff performs thermal plant restoration as appropriate, makes emergency field repairs, troubleshoots, resolves complex mechanical issues, investigates outages and produces reports, completes CMMS work orders and makes corrective recommendations through CMMS.
  3. Is responsible for O&M maintenance strategy, standards, processes, procedures, documentation and effective integration of mechanical maintenance into CMMS and for its utilization and efficient use in the division.
  4. As field mechanical engineering resource supports Asset Management, Engineering and Project Management with identification, definition, design and implementation of capital projects.
  5. Performs or supports asset condition and risk assessments and inspections and produces reports.
  6. Supports capital projects by providing mechanical field engineering support services and technical expertise during capital project implementation. May be assigned as project monitor for capital projects. Actively participates in the weekly Outage Investigation Committee (OIC) meetings, carries out assigned outage root cause investigations and presents finding and recommendations.
  7. Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  8. Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors and the general public in the workplace by reporting any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules, providing detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors and removing hazards or making the workplace safe when leaving a work area. Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety program, Environment program as well as NTPC’s safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university is required. Bachelor of Science degree in another engineering discipline with experience and gas distribution facilities design, operation, and maintenance may also be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of related engineering experience, including a minimum of one year providing engineering support for operational work is required.
  • Must be a registered E.I.T, and working towards P.Eng membership of NAPEG.
  • Class 5 driver's license or equivalent is required.
  • Technical knowledge pertaining to the design, operation, and maintenance of mechanical apparatus.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products.
  • Good knowledge of Corporation policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to natural gas distribution systems, including CSA Z662.
  • Thorough knowledge of reliability theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports, including business case analyses.
  • Must have demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize manufacturers' Manuals and Parts Books.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to maintain effective communications with team members, and to prepare documentation and reports.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems and propose solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

Salary for this position ranges from $66.22/hr.-$80.48/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $11,808 per year. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. Relocation assistance is provided. This position is based in Inuvik, NT.
