The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. The Territorial Authority has service locations in communities across the territory and a staff of more than 1,600 serving over 43,000 residents of the NWT and 5,900 residents of the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.
As the Territorial Communicable Disease Coordinator (TCDC), Public Health, you will be responsible for working towards decreasing the impact of communicable diseases on the regional population. You will act as a resource for, and provide direction to, frontline healthcare professionals (HCPs) using communicable disease policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines in accordance with Northwest Territories legislation and approved standards.
Your responsibilities include coordinating communicable disease management in accordance with surveillance, control, treatment, education, and prevention programming for all communicable diseases in the territory. You will provide direction to HCPs considering factors such as virulence of disease, surveillance data, context of the situation, and the providers' capabilities.
You may be appointed as a Public Health Officer by the NWT Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) within the Public Health Act of the NWT. Additionally, you will provide and coordinate communicable disease consultative services for regional public health service programs and community health centres to ensure continuity of care within the program’s assigned population.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Baccalaureate in Nursing plus five (5) years recent experience in a clinical health care setting, with four (4) years of the experience being in Public Health or Community Health. Other related experience or equivalencies may be considered.
Additional Requirements:
Must be eligible for registration with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN).
