Full Job Description

Primary Role: Organize, manage and facilitate all standards for quality, safety, equipment maintenance and operation, as well as customer requirements.

The Terminal Manager is to foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement in all facets of the terminal’s operation in order to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • The daily and proactive direction and operation of the facility, supplying direct service to the shipping public.
  • All facets of the Quality Process at the terminal including, but not limited to, non-conformance reporting, training, customer service management review, annual shipper specifications review, and to ensure that the process is in place and functioning.
  • Positive interaction with customers and shippers.
  • Compliance with all applicable governmental regulatory standards.
  • Management of employees, including hiring, disciplining, providing operational and health and safety training, preparing performance and salary reviews, and ensuring employee awareness of terminal and personal responsibilities.
  • All areas of training and documentation, including, but not limited to, appropriate and current transloading procedures, safety, environmental, job tasks, maintenance, sanitation, and personal professionalism.
  • Be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of all employees, vendors, drivers, and visitors.
  • All areas of the maintenance program at the terminal, including but not limited to, all level one maintenance, PM requirements, document control, monthly reporting, and communicating all problems and potential problems to the General Manager.
  • Completing all required customer, shipper, as well as any daily, weekly, and/or monthly reports.
  • Reporting any maintenance or other potential problems, and any facility and/or equipment damage to the Regional Manager and General Manager.
  • Communicating any and all terminal information to the General Manager including, but not limited to, personnel problems, employee notices and resignations, approaching vacation periods for employees, visits, and any incidents.
  • Review new products to be handled with the General Manager and assess equipment and staffing requirements.
  • Implement new transloading projects by sourcing people and equipment, implementing the right software tools, and setting clear expectations for employees.
  • Prepare and facilitate customer facility audits; ensuring the best results possible are reached by reviewing previous audits and anticipating potential problem areas.
  • Assist Regional and General Manager in business development.
  • Assist Regional and General Manager in strategic issues management.
  • Financial Management
    • Accounts Payable: approve for accuracy and completeness all terminal expenses, complete PO Audit system and forward all required documentation to Head Office, preparation of all month-end expense accruals.
    • Revenue Management: review all terminal invoicing, including Auto-Pay generated, preparation of all manual invoicing to ensure all terminal tonnages and rates are correct, preparation of month-end revenue accruals.
    • Financial Overview: preparation of the monthly Terminal Managers report summarizing all relevant and material events for the month, an overview of upcoming events, summary of equipment, safety, personnel, and tonnages. Review of terminal financial statements and detailed trial balance for accuracy and completeness.
    • Equipment Management: recommendation or action, as required, for repair and maintenance, replacement or new purchase of any terminal equipment to maintain the ongoing operating efficiency of the terminal.
    • Budget: review and assist in the preparation of the annual terminal operating budget.
    • Review and analysis: prepare review and analysis of terminal efficiency and costing.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of management experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience dealing directly with safety-related issues.
  • Minimum 3 years of administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of governmental regulatory standards and best work practices.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer skills including MS-Office suite.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
