Job Description

The Department of Political Science at Université Laval is inviting applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Professor in Municipal and Local Politics. Candidates from all subfields of Political Science or from related disciplines are encouraged to submit their application.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) levels
  • Supervising graduate students
  • Engaging in research activities and publications
  • Outreach and active participation in university committees
  • Any other activities outlined in the collective agreement for professors

The successful candidate will be integrated into the department as a regular professor starting from July 1, 2025, or at an earlier date.

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or in a related discipline (applications at the stage of initial dissertation submission will be considered)
  • Demonstrate excellence in peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrate strong teaching and pedagogical skills
  • Be able to teach research methods at all three levels of study

Université Laval is a French-speaking institution where teaching and participation in committees are conducted in French. New professors whose native language is not French receive support from the institution to reach the required level of language proficiency for their duties. They are expected to reach the equivalent of a B2 proficiency level in French (advanced intermediate), or higher, by the end of their initial contract.

Hiring and Treatment

Conditions:
Full-time, tenure-track professor position.
Hiring is at the rank of assistant professor.
Salary according to the current collective agreement.

  • Any evidence of the candidate’s strong teaching and pedagogical skills, such as recent teaching evaluations or a written statement highlighting their achievements and pedagogical strategies
  • Three letters of recommendation
