Position Title: Temporary Physician Assistant

Reports To: Dr. Brian Drake and Dr. Howard Lesiuk, Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery

Status: Full-Time, Temporary

Effective Date: December 2, 2024, to May 1, 2026

Salary Type: Competitive Salary

Location: The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus, 1053 Carling Avenue

POSITION SUMMARY

The Physician Assistant (PA) will be based on-site at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus and provide patient care in a team setting, primarily in the outpatient neurosurgery clinic during weekday daytime clinical hours. There will also be opportunities to first assist in the operating room. Under the guidance and supervision of two staff neurosurgeons, the PA will see patients for cranial and spine conditions in consultation and follow up in the outpatient clinic. During these appointments the PA will take detailed histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret investigations, develop a treatment plan, offer patient support and education, and arrange follow up care. In doing so, the PA will increase access to care and decrease wait times. There will be ongoing educational and training opportunities. The PA will have the opportunity to join multidisciplinary rounds such as neurovascular rounds and CNS oncology rounds. The PA will also work closely with the clinic nurses, neurosurgery residents, NPs, and administrative assistants.

REQUIREMENTS

• Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and/or American Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to academic and research activities.
• Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
• Current member of Canadian Association of Physician Assistants.

REMUNERATION DETAILS & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Competitive salary with starting range $51.97-60.87 per hour.
