As a Human Resources Payroll Coordinator, you would be responsible for providing expert and responsive Human Resource services to Ontario Health atHome employees in the areas of salary and payroll administration. You would take the lead in one or more Human Resources programs or special projects as assigned. Additionally, you would act as the backup to cover HR Coordinator, Benefits and Pension, and HRIS Specialist duties.

What will you do?

  • Provide advice, assistance, and facilitation to employees in the areas of salary, payroll, and position administration.
  • Work closely with the Scheduling Team to ensure efficient and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll processes.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Team in Finance to ensure efficient and accurate processing.
  • Receive and respond to queries related to salary and other employee entitlements, and resolve issues where identified.
  • Ensure employees' banks are loaded with the appropriate allowances and entitlements based upon position and group.
  • Process bi-weekly annual and hourly-based increments for unionized employees.
  • Provide backup to the HRIS Specialist duties with respect to the processing of new hires, employee transfers, terminations, and schedule changes in Quadrant.
  • Interpret policies and Collective Agreements related to this portfolio for managers and employees.
  • Liaise with the Payroll and Scheduling teams to discuss and resolve matters related to pay.
  • Ensure that all services are performed in accordance with relevant employment and labour legislation, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Collective Agreements, and Ontario Health atHome policies and procedures.
  • Lead and/or participate in, and demonstrate an understanding of quality, risk, and patient safety principles and practices.
  • Follow all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicate any activity or action which may constitute a risk/hazard.

What must you have?

  • Post-secondary training in the field (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Professional payroll certification/designation preferred or enrollment in a payroll certification program.
  • Membership in HRPAO preferred.
  • CHRL designation or progress towards its achievement preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in progressively responsible Human Resource roles in a unionized environment.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a payroll role required.
  • Experience with an HRIS/payroll system.
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

What would give you the edge?

  • Experience with Collective Agreement administration and application.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Human Resources Information Systems (Quadrant, iCims).
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written correspondence.
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in creating and amending spreadsheets, contracts, and other sensitive documents.
  • Strong prioritization, organizational, and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities; flexibility.
  • Self-motivated and initiates follow-up, as required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and advanced keyboarding skills; knowledge of Quadrant and SharePoint considered an asset; ability to learn additional software programs as needed.
  • Experience coordinating and moderating meetings through the use of Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to perform research using the internet.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good mathematical skills for working with numbers in preparation of travel expense claims, processing of invoices and cheque requisitions, and preparation of spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities and judgment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours per week, subject to change.

The Human Resources Coordinator, Payroll, may be required to work virtually and in office based on the needs of the organization. Home office will be in the Hamilton office.
