Temporary Before and After School Educator

For over 35 years, Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton has been dedicated to offering high-quality programs for young children and their families. We operate full-day early learning and childcare centers for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, along with before and after school extended-day programs for kindergarten and school-aged children at over 27 locations across the Greater Hamilton Area.

Position: Temporary Before and After School Early Childhood Educator (ending October 31, 2025)
Location: Ancaster Meadow Centre
Hours: 27.75 hours/week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:45am – 9:30am and 3:15pm – 5:45pm
Pay Rate (includes wage grants): RECE $27.72/hr; Non RECE - $25.18/hr

About the Role:
Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Before & After School Early Childhood Educator will create and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth of the children.

What We’re Looking For:

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1-year experience working directly with children, or in a childcare setting with school-aged children
• Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent qualifications, such as a Child & Youth Worker, OCT – Teacher, or Recreation & Leisure diploma

Certifications:

• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Proof of up-to-date immunizations (TB, Tetanus, MMR)
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations

Skills & Knowledge:

• Familiarity with How Does Learning Happen? (an asset)
• Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement, and evaluate activities that support children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care at all times
• Create and maintain an engaging, warm, and welcoming environment for children and families
• Conduct daily check-ins and documentation according to Ministry of Education requirements
• Work collaboratively with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board faculty and maintain professional relationships
