DUTIES:
Reporting to the Manager of Right-of-Way, this position will be responsible for a variety of assignments related to the technical work associated with Development, Projects & Right-of-Way. Responsibilities include:
- Design and preparation of specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents.
- Administration of contracts for the construction of roads, sewers, and other municipal projects.
- Representation of the Corporation and liaison with Consultants, Provincial and Federal government officials, railway companies, and utilities during the construction of assigned projects.
- Technical analysis and preparation of written reports relating to development applications for re-zonings, site plan control, plans of subdivision, and condominium conversions.
- Negotiation of development agreements.
- Departmental representation to various committees, including Planning Advisory Committee and Site Plan Review.
- Familiarity with Provincial safety legislation and Corporate safety policies and procedures.
- Research, preparation of reports, and other written correspondence as required.
- Travel to off-site meetings and attend various job sites.
- Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
- Other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency; and a minimum of one (1) year experience in the application of engineering principles in a municipal environment or municipally related engineering office;
- OR University Degree in Civil Engineering, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency; and a minimum of two (2) years experience in the application of engineering principles in a municipal environment or municipally related engineering office;
- OR Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies, and a minimum of four (4) years experience in the application of engineering principles in a municipal environment or municipally related engineering office;
- OR Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus one (1) year of post-secondary education from a Community College in Civil Engineering Technology, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies, and a minimum of six (6) years experience in the application of engineering principles in a municipal environment or municipally related engineering office;
- Designation as a C.Tech or C.E.T through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
- Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely manner. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid Driver’s License is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, and a driver’s abstract must be provided as a condition of employment.
- Proven communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with City representatives, other agencies, and the general public.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and the hazards associated with the work.
- The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a limited/sedentary level of work.
