AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Report to the Coordinator, Asset Maintenance Management and/or Supervisor, Parks Admin. Provide internal and external customer service by responding to inquiries and requests related to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and/or related technical services within the division, ensuring departmental, divisional and corporate service policies and standards are adhered to.
Provide advice, guidance and training and some directive duties to part time staff and students.
- Create, maintain and/or distribute a variety of GIS related Parks data including custom maps, tables, analytics, charts, photos etc., ensuring data is accessible in a compatible format.
- Liaise with various departments across the Corporation and external customers to further detail the scope, requirements and timelines for requested deliverables.
- Collaborate with clients to ensure relevant GIS datasets are current, comprehensive and provide all necessary information to support their critical business activities.
- Identify, design and perform spatial and tabular data analysis for projects and plans including planning of amenities and asset replacement.
- Support project teams in the development and implementation of large scale divisional projects by conducting data verification, attribute analysis and providing mapping and solutions.
- Work collaboratively within the sectional team to verify datasets, mapping products and analysis to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of work produced for clients.
- Migrate various data formats (including CAD, Shapefile, GeoDatabase etc.) into an Oracle Enterprise GIS database ensuring digital standards are met and data is verified for quality and accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures, processes and metadata related to custom applications, work flow, queries, analyses and GIS products, ensuring final documentation is available for use by all users.
- Utilize the Parks Asset Database to sort and analyze the data to produce repair and replacement lists of assets to aid in project prioritization.
- Produce Parks-specific forecasting scenarios for new opportunities within the City, ensuring local and city-wide service levels and areas are taken into consideration.
- Provide GIS training to users and operational staff related to Divisional procedures, methods and applications.
- Conduct field inspections to collect and validate data, inventory, addresses and/or additional details not yet published online or in development plans; delivers map(s) on occasion.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
- High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over two (2) and up to three (3) years in Geographical Information Systems, Urban Planning or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of experience in GIS.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and related software applications.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- G License in good standing for site visits and travel within the City of Brampton.
