JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a highly motivated student to support laboratory and greenhouse activities in our cannabis breeding and research facility Aurora Coast located in beautiful Comox, BC. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in Biology, Horticulture, Forestry or other related programs. Reporting to the Manager, Cultivation, the role will assist in plant care and phenotyping tasks as well as laboratory activities including DNA isolation, genotyping, and sample preparation among others.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow laboratory and cultivation protocols, keep accurate records of the work performed and prepare reports with the data generated.
  • Perform plant phenotyping protocols, including measuring yield, height, image collection and analysis, etc.
  • Support genotyping activities including extraction DNA and RNA from plant tissues, and quality control on isolated nucleic acids.
  • Prepare materials, media, buffers, and solutions.
  • Assist with plant care and cultivation as needed (cloning, seeding, transplanting, planting, pruning and harvesting).
  • Assist the Operations team and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Comply with company safety, regulatory and security standards.

  • General interest and knowledge in horticulture and plants.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Attention to detail and accountability.
  • A developed work ethic and drive for success.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at a Canadian post-secondary education institution.
  • Experience with plants and plant management, particularly in a greenhouse or nursery.
  • Technical training or experience with greenhouse management, horticulture or related tasks is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of the life cycle of cannabis.
  • Ability to work in environments with cannabis pollen and plant debris.
  • Ability to work hard and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Able to comfortably lift 22 kilograms.
  • Ability to undertake repetitive work.
