Positions Available: 1

Salary: $29 hourly

Employment Conditions: Day, Morning

On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Education:

  • College diploma/certificate or above

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a chemical technologist or technician
  • Prior experience at a wastewater treatment plant

Work setting:

  • Water and waste treatment utilities

General Tasks:

  • Conduct or assist in air and water quality testing
  • Conduct or assist in environmental monitoring and protection activities
  • Conduct tests and analysis using other physical and chemical separation techniques
  • Operate laboratory apparatus
  • Set up chemical experiments, tests and analyses
  • Assist in set up and conduction of chemical experiments
  • Compile records for analytical studies
  • Assist in developing programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards
  • Assist in development of standards, health and safety measures
  • Compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results
  • Develop and conduct programs of sampling and analysis
  • Conduct safety training programs
  • Supervise other workers
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations
  • Supervise operation of mechanical equipment and machinery

Detailed Tasks:

  • Supervise the sampling and analysis of containerized waste, vacuum trucks, and tankers
  • Oversee and verify compatibility testing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  • Manage waste processing in accordance with laboratory test results and SOPs
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date waste inventory tracking
  • Supervise data entry into the waste tracking system and review for accuracy
  • Ensure proper operation of heavy equipment, including skid steers, forklifts, excavators, and backhoe loaders
  • Oversee routine equipment maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs
  • Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
  • Operate and maintain the sludge and solidification pathways, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
  • Assist with the development and enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Conduct internal audits to verify adherence to regulatory and safety requirements
  • Ensure proper sampling techniques and test execution for compatibility and waste characterization
  • Validate test results and oversee adjustments in treatment processes accordingly
  • Maintain compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Reg. 347, WHMIS, and Ontario Health and Safety Act regulations
  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies and ensure documentation accuracy for audits and inspections
  • Maintain all records related to waste and chemical processing on site
  • Develop and implement waste diversion strategies to minimize environmental impact
  • Identify opportunities for recycling and resource recovery within waste streams
  • Ensure proper segregation, storage, and shipping of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
  • Lead and mentor facility technicians and support staff
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements
