Job description

We are seeking a technically inclined student for an internship / work term to assist our manufacturing company with the creation of production related work instructions.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Technical Writer. This role involves creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for use in our manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role streamlining operations, ensuring consistency, and improving efficiency.

Malley Industries Inc. is a Moncton-based manufacturer of ambulances and other specialty vehicles. Our roots date back to the late 1970s when we began producing truck caps and customized vans. In the mid 1980s, we began manufacturing ambulances and wheelchair accessibility vehicle conversions. These, along with vacuum formed composite products for the automotive and industrial sectors, are the primary products of this multiple award-winning family-owned company now serving customers throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Observing work processes: Watching experienced employees perform tasks to accurately document each step
  • Developing detailed instructions: Writing clear, concise, and easy-to-follow step-by-step guides of daily work flows and key processes, often including visuals like images, photographs or diagrams
  • Quality Checks: Ensuring work instructions are accurate, up-to-date, and meet company standards. Maintain consistency in formatting, language, and structure across all SOPs.
  • Collaboration with subject matter experts: Working with employees who have in-depth knowledge of specific tasks to gather necessary information
  • Maintaining a knowledge base: Regularly updating work instructions to reflect process changes or new procedures

Skills Needed:

  • Experience in creating SOPs, process documentation, or technical writing
  • Excellent writing and communication skills: Ability to clearly explain complex processes in a simple manner
  • Inquisitive: This role requires a person who is comfortable asking questions to understand why a process is done a certain way and what tools are required to get the job done.
  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of the processes and equipment involved in the tasks being documented. Technical vehicle knowledge would be a huge asset
  • Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy in every step of the work instruction
  • Organizational skills: Managing multiple work instructions and keeping them updated
  • Software proficiency: Familiarity with authoring tools for creating digital work instructions, like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
  • Language: Oral and written proficiency in English is required.

Location: 1100 Aviation Avenue, Dieppe

Hours Of Work: Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m,Friday 8 a.m. – noon

Compensation: $17/hr
