Job description

We are currently looking for an Expeditor to join our team. The Expeditor is responsible for the complete/timely execution of purchase orders by working closely with stakeholders to meet agreed delivery dates.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Expedite receipt of components, assembly kits, subassemblies, and assemblies as required by Production to complete Work on time, stay on schedule and meet deadlines.
  2. Contact Vendors on a daily basis to ensure timely delivery of Materials.
  3. Update the Promise date in the system and continuously follow up with Vendors to ensure the shipments are made as promised.
  4. Review all line items on open purchase orders, follow up with vendors, and update information from vendors in the system weekly.
  5. Maintain constant contact with vendors, transporters, and customs brokers while deliveries are in transit, resolving any situations affecting the timely arrival of parts to the plant.
  6. Notify stakeholders in a timely manner if a critical delivery will be late.
  7. Evaluate situations and make adjustments in the procurement plan, such as procuring from alternate vendors and obtaining approvals for the use of alternate materials.
  8. Communicate with vendors to resolve issues affecting a purchase order.
  9. Track orders from placement through delivery and acceptance.
  10. Visit supplier facilities as required to monitor the progress of critical components.
  11. Create and issue purchase orders for materials and services as required.
  12. Resolve vendor errors and quality issues of materials as they arise.
  13. Review and analyze production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine types, quantities, and availability of required material.
  14. Prioritize POs to support completion of work orders as per scheduler want dates and part stopper reports.
  15. Facilitate movement of materials/kits from stores to work stations as the schedule requires.
  16. Coordinate with stores in receiving shipments of materials after ensuring parts are approved per quality plan and specifications.
  17. Coordinate with stores to pick and book parts for work orders as material becomes available.
  18. Arrange to book incoming materials/subassemblies to the right work orders.
  19. Coordinate with buyers to assess the reliability of vendors and identify solutions for ongoing problems.
  20. Coordinate with supervisors, lead hands in production, QA, engineering, sales, and shipping as required to take and provide feedback on material-related issues affecting production.
  21. Ensure everyone can access updated material status in the system.
  22. Review system bug reports for purchasing functions daily and update the system as required.
  23. Perform other duties as allocated by the head of the department.

Qualifications & Requirements

  1. University degree in Mechanical Engineering and practical industrial experience in Supply Chain Management.
  2. Minimum of 5 plus years of experience as a buyer in an industrial procurement environment.
  3. Certification as a CPM, CSCP, APP, CPPB, CPPO, or equivalent.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing and industrial technical contracting techniques and procedures.
  5. Strong knowledge of internal controls and finance management.
  6. Excellent computer (MS Excel, Outlook) and people management skills.
  7. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  8. Able to consistently represent the company professionally.
  9. Thorough knowledge of ERP/MRP software systems and data entry.
  10. Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  11. Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  12. Knowledge of accounting and budgetary practices and principles.
  13. Able to quickly calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.
  14. Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations about corporate purchasing practices.
  15. Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, contracts, requests, bids, and other documentation.
  16. Knowledge of the appropriate tools for grading, analyzing, and assessing materials, equipment, supplies, services, and other commodities.
  17. Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  18. Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
