Job description

Contract position: 13-14 month duration Maternity Leave Coverage

Job Summary

The Technical Buyer ensures that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply within Ebara HG. This role has greater responsibility and accountability than a Buyer and must possess a strong logistic aptitude. The candidate will take responsibility for specific projects or hold a larger responsibility in terms of purchasing responsibilities, will have sound technical knowledge, expertise, broad understanding of supply chain and rotating equipment.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Execute the full buying process (procurement, quotation analysis, purchasing, expediting) for a given set of goods/business unit(s) in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Negotiate carriers' contracts, manage logistics with subcontractors and vendors (North America, Europe and Asia).
  • Provide technical/commercial assistance to other Buyers to develop awareness of manufacturing processes and improve product knowledge.
  • Apply sourcing policy, interface between supplier and entity with respect to specifications and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain a strong foundation of function skills and knowledge of relevant purchasing and sourcing concepts.
  • Analyze available data to manage problems, ensure changes are reflected within the MRP systems.
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible including transportation, inventory etc.
  • Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers as required, ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Explore alternate sources for goods and materials.
  • Work collaboratively and negotiate and engage with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects, supplies and initiatives and advise of impact of change on purchasing and production activities.
  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact.
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organization meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications.

Education & Skills

  • APICS designation or Post-Secondary Diploma in a related program.
  • Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem identification and solution abilities.
  • Commercially and financially aware, keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
  • 3+ years working with an ERP/MRP system in a similar role.
  • Proven purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements across multiple business units.
  • Sound technical knowledge and understanding of rotating equipment (pumps and mixers) and supply chain management role over 3 manufacturing plants.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office Excel/PowerPoint/Word.
  • Experience in database reporting and data mining.
  • Understanding of logistics in regards of USMCA, international trade, incoterms, HS codes preferred.
