Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Science Department is seeking a temporary part-time (0.3 FTE) Technical Staff II to provide technical services related to the preparation of student laboratories.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain Glassware Supplies for Classrooms/Labs:
- Wash glassware thoroughly and ensure cleanliness
- Monitor inventory levels and replenish supplies as needed
- Prepare, Maintain, and Clean Routine Laboratory Equipment:
- Ensure routine equipment used in the laboratory is properly prepared, maintained, and cleaned
- Transport equipment to labs/classrooms as required and ensure timely return
- Handle Bio-hazardous Material and Chemical Waste Disposal:
- Safely manage bio-hazardous materials and arrange for proper disposal of chemical waste
- Attend Department Meetings:
- Participate in department meetings to discuss laboratory-related matters and provide input
Other Related Duties as Directed:
- Maintain the program’s lab coat/gown inventory and coordinate laundry services
- Create and manage electronic records for chemical and reagent inventory
- Support program projects, initiatives, and other assigned duties
- Perform duties to assist in the preparation for instructional processes as directed by the program
- Set up and aliquot standard solutions as required for various lab procedures
- Operate apparatus and equipment for practical applications in laboratory work
- Assist in the preparation of audio-visual materials and equipment
- Provide guidance to students in the use of laboratory equipment
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years’ experience as a Laboratory Assistant, industrial, clinical, field, or related experience, plus one additional year of appropriate post-secondary education;
- Diploma of Technology or equivalent.

- Has Strong Problem-Solving Skills – Exhibits strong problem-solving abilities and troubleshoots issues effectively as they arise
- Shows a Desire and Willingness to Learn – Demonstrates a strong desire and willingness to learn, adapt, and be flexible in tasks and responsibilities

Salary Range: $58,460 - $72,424 per annum.
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience, and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
