Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Team Lead, Project Accounting will be part of a high-performing project team dedicated to delivering construction projects on the Industrial East team based in Mississauga. As a Team Lead, you will be responsible for providing project accounting leadership and support for these projects, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficient financial management. You will work closely with the project team, vendors, and clients to ensure timely and accurate invoicing, cost reconciliation, and financial reporting.

This position will be based out of Mississauga, ON office.

What you will be doing:

  1. Accountable for the financial management of projects for Industrial business unit, including gross profit, project % complete forecasting, WIP, and IFRS 15 revenue recognition and backlog.
  2. Audit project P&L reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company reporting policies and accounting standards.
  3. Review cost and billing reports to ensure proper management of cost codes, contract items, charge out rates, and markups.
  4. Monitor project profitability including claims management to identify areas for risk and opportunities.
  5. Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for district projects, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
  6. Supervise, coach, and mentor district finance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  7. Oversee IFRS 16 Lease management of leases and equipment rentals.
  8. Collaborate with project managers, directors, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support for project planning and execution.
  9. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies, including internal controls and external audit requirements.
  10. Handle ad-hoc financial assignments and projects as required.
  11. Support project closeout processes.
  12. Respond to requests received from internal and external auditors.
  13. Help champion a strong partnership and act as liaison between the district finance team and its operational counterparts.
  14. Support Senior Finance Manager and Senior Director of Finance on continuous improvement initiatives.

What We Are Looking For:

  1. University degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant education.
  2. CPA or other relevant professional designation or equivalent experience.
  3. Relevant project experience of at least 5 years.
  4. Supervisory experience of at least 3 years.
  5. Advanced Excel proficiency, ability to work with complex formulae, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH functions, and arrays.
  6. Proficiency with ERP systems; experience in Viewpoint Vista or InEight considered an asset.
  7. Industrial Construction and public company experience is an asset.
  8. Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  9. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, handle pressure, and meet challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  10. Strong written and oral communication skills.
