Summary:
Working with the Pastoral Leadership Team, the Pastor 1 will give leadership in preaching, prayer, and pastoral care. The Pastor is responsible for serving as the primary preacher for the Sunday worship services and for oversight of the adult teaching ministries of the church. The pastor plans and preaches sermons each Sunday that will spiritually nourish, encourage, and prompt the congregation. We strongly emphasize a practical and sensible approach to the Scriptures that goes deep, transforms lives, and enables believers to live a life of obedience. The person in this role also works with the other pastors to plan and carry out weekly worship services. The Pastor will also provide the pastoral care ministry team with leadership, vision, and implementation. The Pastor will assume the primary responsibility for visiting, counseling, and encouraging the members of the Yellowknife Vineyard and addressing spiritual needs. The Pastor will also work to uphold the congregation and its ministries and the community in prayer by building and teaching the different types of prayer and the Vineyard 5 step prayer model. This will educate, empower, and inspire the congregation in their prayer lives.
The job description is divided into two parts, Section A: Major Responsibilities and Section B: Other Considerations.
Yellowknife Vineyard’s pastoral structure is designed for each pastor to have major responsibilities that are their primary focus. The secondary focus is to support and assist one another.
Integration expectation
The teaching and prayer pastor carries responsibility for all areas of responsibility outlined in this job description and is fully autonomous to fulfill these responsibilities within the accountable relationships outlined in the addendum attached hereto. Because the teaching and prayer pastor works within a team of pastors and is accountable to the other pastors and to the PLT, the practice will be toward the integration of team effort by broad and intentional sharing of information. To integrate the team’s effort, the expectation is:
- That the pastor will give quarterly feedback to the PLT on each area of responsibility outlined in the job description.
- That at least one other PLT member will understand, and have access to, any technical or password and security type applications in the case of the sudden unavailability or indisposition of the pastor.
- The goal is always toward a coordinated team effort, the broad sharing of information, and an intentional avoidance of siloing.
SECTION A: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities are allocated on a Part time basis as follows:
- Pastoral Care- 25%
- Discipleship- 15%
- Corporate Worship- 40%
- Missional - 10%
- Personal Prayer & Devotion – 10%
The allocations are understood to be averages and that, as circumstances arise, from time to time shifting of emphasis between the categories may occur as needed, or at the request of the PLT or the senior pastor.
Major Responsibility: Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care/Crises Response.
- Provide ongoing visitation and counseling.
- Respond to crises as they arise (i.e. hospital visitation, etc.).
- Visit shut-ins and serve Communion on special occasions (i.e. Easter, Christmas etc.)
Major Responsibility : Discipleship
Prayer.
- Work with all ministry leaders to ensure that prayer is an integral and appropriate part of all church ministry programming and activities.
- Ensure that each ministry leader has identified at least one prayer intercessor for their ministry area and that they are regularly connecting with that intercessor so that effective prayer can take place.
- Ensure that prayer needs are communicated (i.e., through the prayer contacts or VNEWS). Establish and develop a prayer ministry team to help meet the ongoing prayer needs of the congregation.
- Lead, guide and motivate the congregation to lead a prayer-oriented life.
- Teach the congregation to pray meaningfully.
- Prayer should be important and communicated meaningfully throughout Sunday worship service.
Major Responsibility: Corporate Worship
Relevant Biblical Preaching.
- Ensure that relevant biblical preaching occurs with appropriate dedication to thoughtful and prayerful consideration of sermon components.
- Sermons need to appeal to all ages and the unique cultural mosaic of Yellowknife Vineyard in a spiritually inspiring and convicting way.
Local Community.
The mission of Yellowknife Vineyard Church begins in our neighborhood. Ministry (the Jesus model) begins with presence. It begins with who we are and where we are. Importantly, our pastors must model it.
SECTION B: OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
You will be expected to support the other members of the pastoral team by:

Experience and Training:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years’ experience
- Preferred Education: Master's Degree with 3-5 years Ministry Experience
Spiritual Gifts:
- Prayer: This is the unique ability to intercede faithfully and constantly before God for the needs of people and ministries. Often these “prayer warriors” see God answering prayer in exceptional ways. Colossians 4:12.
- Knowledge:This is the special ability to discover and comprehend truths one gains in Bible study – the details, the various themes, and the message of the Bible as a whole as it applies to any situation. 1 Corinthians 2 & 4.
- Shepherding:The special ability to guide, nurture, and care for individuals and groups in the church so that they grow in their faith and spiritual maturity. This is the gift of being responsible for the welfare and unity of Christ’s disciples. 1 Peter 5:1-9.

In addition to the duties outlined in this job description, the Co-Pastor will fulfill any additional responsibilities and requirements outlined by the policies and structure of both the Yellowknife Vineyard Church and AVC Canada. As well, the Pastor’s behaviour, attitudes and conduct is expected to be consistent with and guided by the policies and structure of Yellowknife Vineyard Church
