Job description

The Tactical Analyst works closely with key stakeholders in other departments and divisions (Operations, Sales, Logistics) to provide analytical insights and guidance to drive profitable and sustainable business growth. Through regular review of the existing network, you will identify segments that are performing well and those where improvement is required.

The Tactical Analyst will also develop models to predict the impact of pending or planned changes in the network. This is a hands-on role that will empower the right candidate to further develop solid numeric, analytical, and presentation skill sets and a deep understanding Bison transportation network to deliver meaningful insights to the business aimed at superior financial performance and sustainable business growth.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Effectively use existing set of Power BI analytical tools in performance of the job function, to mine data for trends and insights and to identify areas for margin improvement.
  • Create effective visualizations (graphs, charts, tables) to support presented concepts, ideas and recommendations.
  • Guided by the Analytics Picture of Excellence, prepare and lead regular Divisional Review meetings, focusing on assigned network segment performance, surfacing insights and motivating action and positive outcomes.
  • Support the pricing and business development functions through comprehensive evaluation and pricing analysis of existing and prospective business opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for creation of new tools and dashboards to facilitate self-serve analytics and acts a liaison between Operations and Technical teams to formulate business logic and tool output requirements.
  • Other duties adjacent to current duties in function may be added. These duties may involve providing analytical support to other departments on a one time or ongoing basis, and/or involvement in specific Analytical projects.


Our Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • A post-secondary education in Business, Management Information Systems, or Transportation/Supply Chain.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of tools, with the emphasis on Excel and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of databases and SQL is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI is a strong asset.
  • Logical thinking with abstract reasoning ability and tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Numerical and analytical aptitude with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus on the most important tasks while dealing with work surges, without sacrificing output quality.
  • An intellectual curiosity to desire understanding of business trend causes while being motivated to find solutions for improvement.
  • An understanding of concepts, sources, and key relationships between costs and revenues.
  • The ability to create effective visualizations and compile slide presentations.
  • The ability to learn quickly and grasp the fundamentals of our business within a short period of time.
  • Capability to work effectively both as a team member and independently.
  • The ability to follow a process with discipline and recognize when a process has latitude or must be followed closely.
